Re: Too hot?
Its been over 12 hours, the temp is still within parameters and the crab is still enjoying his shell. (-: It's my opinion the excessive heat definitely had something to do with it.

Re: Too hot?
I really appreciate your sharing your experience. I did notice that the crabs really, really loved it years ago when I added a small fan in each tank. I did this to help with the mold issue, and it was EXTREMELY helpful in that regard, but it was also absolutely clear that the crabs loved the movin...

Re: I can't believe this, crab down for over a year!
So I got a jumbo at a pet store in July of 2014. In January of 2015 he came up, and I posted a thread on it. Well in June, he went down. Haven't see him since I assumed he died. I got home this morning from pt and he's UP! I'm honestly so confused, he's been down for 8 months. And He couldn't have ...

Re: Too hot?
My guys are more chill in winter and more active in spring/summer too. Even though the tanks are heated during the cooler months, with temps reaching into the 80s (Near the heater temps can reach up into 90s, further away high 70s-80). In hotter months I have to shut off the heat because the tanks ...

Re: Too hot?
Hi I just had this experience. My temps were consistently 95-99 and humidity the same day in and day out and everything seemed fine until last month. I am in California and the, maps started to rise outside although we keep inside temps under control. I noticed 2 crabs came out of their shells and we...

Strange but probably true! LOLKellyCrabbieLove wrote: When I was very new to crabbing I was shocked one morning to find this massive sinkhole in my tank that one of my hides had actually fallen into. I only had small crabs at the time. I think it was a group effort!!!

Re: Do we have to rethink molt durations?
Hmmmm....my guys have always been pretty close to the accepted molting time frames, give or take a week. Every once in a while I have crabs that go quite a bit longer or shorter, but that is not the norm. How interesting that you are having such a different experience. But if the end result in eith...

Re: Do we have to rethink molt durations?
crabs will often drink from the glass where humidity has gathered or where you have recently sprayed. They will go to the water when needed. I woke up early this morning and spotted Barnaby in the pool and Burgundy patiently waiting to join him. He saw that I saw him and slowly strutted back to his...

Re: Do we have to rethink molt durations?
They store up much needed nutrients before digging down (molt sac - though some crabs seem to always have one, so seeing one doesn't necessarily mean they will dig down to molt right away). And yes, they may stash food or eat things like moss, cocofiber, wood, etc. Plus if they do molt, they eat th...

Theft and fraud. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk It is. I did speak to them sometime last year and they said they were discontinuing Strawberries and few others and were closing down due to health issues BUT they were still selling PPs. So true!jclee wrote:Crabs LOVE new substrate. I've noticed that when I upgrade tanks or take in a new adoptee, they usually molt right away. Same with the shells. When I rotate shell availability, even the crabs that love the same old shell they've been in for ages can't stop exploring the new options.
