Re: HERMIT CRAB NOT MOVING!

I would definitely second the Ultratherm. It might be a BIT more expensive, but it is 10000% more effective. Again, it depends on climate but I think if you are at 75 degrees in late summer, it might be a good investment. :D Hopefully you decide to get it, but if your parents don't let you, that is ...

Re: Big crab

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do assuming the legs haven't fallen off yet/ there aren't any glaring problems. What made you think they would fall off? Any areas of concern? I would leave it be until a problem arises. There are some areas of concern w/ your tank. The blue calcium sand is ba...

Re: Molting or stressed or......????

Hi, welcome!! :D Awesome on trying to get informed about the crabs, you are doing great! This behavior is common in new crabs, they dig to destress. Definitely leave him alone, to help limit the stress. One question: How much substrate do you have? The minimum recommended is 6 inches (sorry if you a...

Re: Help!!!!!! BIG emergency!!!

I'm so sorry this is happening, hopefully it will be sorted out! :( While we are waiting for your completed emergency template, here are some things that stood out: Humidity really should be higher in the main tank, especially if you have all EE substrate. I would spray the main tank more often. I u...

Re: Storing sand ?

I would think this would be enough. Where would you be storing this bag? I've heard that it's best not to store in a garage (that actively has cars entering/exiting) due to fumes,. Just a warning. Seems like it would keep bugs/animals out, though. If you are doubtful or see anything, though, rinsing...

Re: It happened again....

Jerome: thanks for the support. It really helps. Franckinator: I did the emergency template when I built this new crabitat and there were no obvious problem areas. My answers wouldn't be any different, except that there is a bit more substrate and I added bubblers for increased humidity. I really, r...

Re: OH NO, I used open play sand!!!

Thanks for everyone's sympathies and concerns. It's helped a lot. The sand was the only variable I can imagine, but who knows.... It might have been my picking him up the night before, something I feel so awful about.... Hopefully I'll eventually help a crab rather than hurt.... :(

It happened again....

Another dead crab. The active one. I'm really sad, I thought conditions were great. I'm going to replace all of the sand and substrate and try again, but still have one (very lethargic) living crab. Would it be okay for them to be moved to a tupperware container or smallish (meaning smaller than a 1...

Re: OH NO, I used open play sand!!!

I think I'm going to replace all the sand and everything, as one of my crabs passed today. I am very, very sad and confused, but going to do my best to identify and fix a problem.

Re: New Shells Advice

Yeah! He switch three times yesterday only to go back into his turbo. All three shells seemed tiny on him (I doubt he can retract fully into any of them!) Is this an E shell preference thing or an E thing or a crab thing...? I think I have some fairly good-fitting shells in there!

Re: OH NO, I used open play sand!!!

I think it wan't very closed. I didn't rinse it either..... It was near the opening to the garage, and obviously the car is never on without the garage being open, but..... I didn't even think! I can't believe I did that!! I don't know what I'll do now!

OH NO, I used open play sand!!!

So I just read a post that said having open play sand in a garage that had vehicles in it parking and stuff is bad!!! I mostly used Eco Earth, but I definitely used that play sand too!!!! Oh no, will my crabs be okay? Do I have to replace the sand, I really don't want to if it can be avoided...
