It would be a lot of work but if it is that joint that fails each time as wode said then it would be smart to redo all the silicone in the tank at the same time or at the very least the bottom half that needs to be water tight I would imagine

Maybe it is just the pictures making it look that way but I swear those crabs are in different shells, one looks like it has been banded and one looks unaltered???

Re: New Aussies...
Hey crabber85 do you by chance have any papers on any species of crabs changing genders, I read the one that wode referenced a couple months ago that was done on wild ruggies, indos, and blues. It is just something that interests me and I think I have even witnessed it possibly in my colony. Or if a...

That is something I was wondering about, I guess I'm going to do what I always do... Become totally engulfed in what ever my focus becomes, I suppose I should just start trying to walk in our German friends foot steps....

I use 2x 10x20 super sprouter brand heating pads on the back of my 40b and at the lowest my temp will go down to 78 and high is 88 with no temp controllers, I have thought about getting a controller but I feel like the 10 degree swing is a good thing.

I hope to one day walk in your guys foot steps, you all are amazing!
On another note have any of you considered turning this into a career? I personally would never buy another wild caught hermit if I could get captive breedings?!

Re: Worried about Thanksgiving Conditions - advice on heatin
Get another UTH and put it on the front side of the tank, since your not going to be home.... You won't mind not being able to see through it  I actually use 10x20 heating mats from the gardening industry and they are much cheaper at least in my experience and work really well, I've had one for...

As long as we are talking about virgin plastic that is food grade, or any plastics with recycling number 2 and lower are considered for grade, at least that's what I have been told by one of my plastic thermo mold distributor's

Re: Poop!
In the water dish or food bowl is not optimum but it's fascinating to watch them do a shell-clean, though, especially to see how they move a piece of poop forward with those tiny hidden legs until it falls out of the shell. Just shows you how cool these guys are that I can sit and watch them toss p...

Re: silly sleeping habits ,Nelson
My dominant crab sleeps like the dead, he has a couple choice spots that he has piled up mostly coco fibre and he sleeps with his head laying on the ground with all six front arms flat on the ground too. For the first year that I had him I was sure he was dead every time he did it... This is not a g...
