In my tank? Two days, then they were demolished by pinchers. Hahaha! I grow them carefully in the kitchen for three or four months, and they devour them in mere days.

Re: Adoption success stories.
Thank you to ridingswritings for trusting me with her three beautiful hermit crabs. Football, Daenerys, and Tyrion seem to be very happy in their new home, and they are an absolute joy to have!
Molt Sac?
Please tell me this is a molting sac. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160713/f2fcdde2d53be6d08934dacde6063944.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160713/4c939a7fb2ef9b6e2a12faf153bac9c9.jpg Sorry about the image quality. She is really feisty, and I don't want to get pinched. [emoji52] I've never...

Re: Three Bad Molts
Crabinski and Kaydeelove: Thanks for the sympathy. I really thought that they were safe from PPS after their first molt. I'm still really sad, but if it wasn't my fault I can move on. Its not easy to lose the little guys, but I really did the best I could for them. I was just afraid that I was doing...

Three Bad Molts
I just emptied out one of my old habitats. I left it running for three months with no sign of activity, but knew that it had been quite a bit longer than that since I'd seen my three missing crabs. I'm pretty sure they've been dead quite a while, as there was never any smell. I just want a more expe...

Re: Big move. Tonight's the night! Edit: Added Pics
Now I'm blushing. [emoji5] Yes, they eat the bark off the branch. Between that and the other natural bits in the tank, they don't visit the food bowl much except for fruit or seeds. And yep, that's a large coffee mug. It was the only thing I could find that was big enough for Seren to get her shell ...

Re: Big move. Tonight's the night!
Can u add pics? Sent from my LGMS345 using Tapatalk Sure, I just didn't think anyone would be interested. I'm still working out the kinks as far as arrangement goes. My big girl likes to follow my little crabs everywhere, and she demolishes the tank in the process. Fair warning, the pics are kinda ...

Re: I'm Building a Snail Farm
Which are dangerous to rats, and humans if an infected snail is eaten. I don't think it poses the same risk to hermit crabs. Plenty of people raise garden snails as pets, and I've found posts from several members that feed them to the crabs. I'm going to keep them for my terrarium anyway. Maybe I'll...

I'm Building a Snail Farm
My crabby clan really likes snails. I mean really . I toss in the occasional garden snail I find, and none of them last more than a week. They are abundant in the spot my dad hunts for worms, which is also the spot I hunt for pill bugs. We have a sweet deal, I put any big worms I find in his worm bi...

Re: Big move. Tonight's the night!
They went from a 30 gallon into my new 80 gallon. Everybody still seems pretty pleased with the new place.
They're finally getting the hang of the second level. They bustle all over the tank all night long, then dogpile together in the morning. It's a blast to watch!

Re: Shell Swapping
I've had PP's in everything from land fairy snail shells to murex to 3 different kinds of turbos. Your new buddy is probably ecstatic at all the variety and trying on as many new "suits" as he can. Thanks for the reassurance. I kind of thought so, especially since he only had the whale eye as a spa...

Re: Shell Swapping
Oh, wow. I've never had any aggression over shells, especially having someone pulled out of a shell. I was more concerned about my new one finding one that pleased him. He's not showing any signs of wanting anyone else's shell. I think that I have so many extras in the tank that he's just ov...

Shell Swapping
I just acquired a medium hermit in an adoption. His previous owner rescued him from poor conditions and kept him for three years. His color is beautiful and he's active and curious, with no missing limbs or antennae. As far as I can tell, he's in better shape than most of the crabs that come to me. ...
