Re: Naked crab

I'm sorry to hear your having issues with your hermit crab but there are a couple of options to try. First try placing the crab and one or two empty shells together in a small container or cup and leave him be for a few hours the lack of space and extra quiet is usually enough to coax a stubborn her...

Re: Water change and trying new organic peanut butter.

Seems like I'm doing water changes every other day now due to the increase in tank activity, looks like the winter semi-hibernation is over. The peanut butter I'm testing out is organic contains no sugar or added sodium and is derived from organically grown peanuts. The brand is called Crazy Richa...

Re: Water change and trying new organic peanut butter.

Yeah it does seem odd that they still know regardless of how optimal we keep their housing conditions. They stayed in the food dish all throughout the night last night chowing down on the peanut butter, honey and calcium blend I gave them. They haven't been this enthusiastic about food in a few mon...

Re: Flea Fogging

I agree fogging is really not the way to go, most of the commercially available foggers don't really do much except make a mess and depending on the species of flea can prompt them into crazy breeding which would only serve to magnify your issue. Diatomaceous earth is actually a silica based mineral...

Re: *Update* on Yellowbellied slider.

Thanks for the recipe. :)

Leo isnt quite big enough to accurately sex yet but Im starting to think it might be a female due to claw length, head shape and cloacal position.

*Update* on Yellowbellied slider.

Leo is doing well, eating like a piggy and growing. He/She has taken to eating bits of carrot and romaine lettuce when offered and gets a pinch of Zoo-Med organic turtle food once every other day, I try to alternate between veggies and the pellets to ensure a broader and more stable diet. I keep a h...

Re: Hermit Crab hasnt eaten in 3 weeks! Help!

You don't have too change a crabs food that often! Crabs have been studied in the wild and they are scavengers and often prefer older 'food' to fresh 'food'. They've been seen eating molded food. Feel free to fill out the emergency template stickied in the emergency section! Sent from my LGMS330 us...

Re: Hermit Crab hasnt eaten in 3 weeks! Help!

Some will have huge appetites just before a molt while others will suddenly loose theirs, we do know that the crab has to eat enough to produce the nutrient stores necessary to facilitate being underground for upwards of two weeks which accounts for the increase in appetite but we still dont clearly...

Re: Hermit Crab hasnt eaten in 3 weeks! Help!

Your setup sounds great so I don't see any environmental issues that could be the cause. Hermit crabs are biologically hardwired to avoid foods that they have smelled or eaten for up to forty-eight hours after which is why feeding the same foods every day is actually not the best idea so we tend to ...

Re: Hermit Crab PP losing color

@Alexc2019, as soilentgringa stated they do tend to get ashy right before a molt but they can also have their color fade if they aren't being fed foods with the right pigment boosters like Spirulnia, Beta carotene and Astaxanthin. You can buy Spirulnia powder and Astaxanthin most health food stores ...
