mold!!!
@LAURIE that sound like a good idea. i think i'll do a trial with only one or two pieces (there were 6 pieces of moldy wood total). i'll see how it goes, and probably decide what to do from there.I've done that with caps by the way- once i typed a whole email in caps (multiple paragraphs) and didn't...

New To Hermit Crabs - General Inqueries
It sounds like a shell fight, where the attacker wanted the defender's shell. in the wild, the attacker (if successful) would take the defender's shell, and the losing crab crab would take the winning crab's old shell. however, sometimes shell fights won't be that simple and the crabs will really hu...

mold!!!
Thanks! @Jedi Master Thrash. Right now, my crabs are in a ten gallon that's pretty tall, and I could open the lid halfway for more ventilation. Don't worry, there's nothing tall enough for them to even climb within eight inches of the lid, they're all small crabs, and the sealing glue on the corners...

By "attacking" do you mean that they were face to face and whipping their feelers around, or was one rocking the other's shell, possibly chirping, and trying to get the defending crab out of his/her shell?

mold!!!
Phew! It's a relief to know that it takes a while for the crabs to be affected. I noticed little patches of green fuzz only two days or so after I put the wood in, so it couldn't have been moldy for too long. I have seen that cholla wood online and in pet stores (it was painted bright blue so I didn...

also, as you know, don't dig up Sand King. you may want to try moving the heater and seeing if he follows it. this also might be a good idea because you should look out for overheating.I have 3 crabs in my 10 gallon, and that's plenty. I don't suggest you get a fourth.other than that, read up! check...

my crabs' favorite foods are mango, banana, bell pepper, and the occasional papaya treat. if you're looking to buy commercial crab food, look at the ingredients. there's a preservative that starts with an e and has an x in it and ends with "quin" but if forget the whole name. it's toxic to crabs.to ...

mold!!!
I bought some grapewood climbing wood from the pet store. It seemed absolutely fine. However, after about a week, the humidity got to it and it started to rot! I took out all the new wood, rinsed it in really cold water, then put it in the freezer. I checked my whole crabitat and found no other mold...

two new friends
I got two new friends for my crab Tommy (PP). Their names are Aqua and Climber. They're in iso, but they're both active and love to climb and crawl around. I will post pics soon!

Also, how long should new crabs be in the ISO? I've heard that you should bathe new crabs to get rid of unfamiliar scent. Is there anything else to do for new crabs?

I've heard that the smaller crabs are more unstable with their chances of survival. Is this true? Also, Tommy is currently golf ball size. Will there be conflict between him and smaller crabs?

Do hermit crabs ever chirp for reasons other than "I'm scared" "leave me alone" or because they're in "shell fights"?@LAURIE
