New Here and new to crabs!

That is so frustrating to be given bad information. I am glad you were able to find better info though and hope you will come to enjoy your crabs.

Does bigger shell = greater confidence?

Two of my crab have changed into much bigger shells and suddenly they seem so much more confident. They are out and about more and eating and playing more. Perhaps the bigger shells are just a symptom of them feeling more at home, but for those of you that have had crabs for a lot longer... do they ...

I did this all wrong, but hello anyways.

Welcome! I am glad you found this site. I have definitely found it helpful it setting up my habitat. There is a link listed above for setting up a habitat on a budget that is worth checking out. Also, you asked about raising humidity quickly to give you time until you can get your habitat set up... ...

New crabitat

Unfortunately, you have been given some misinformation. I would refer to this page for more accurate information. http://home.comcast.net/~JediM...icHermitCrabCare.htm For starter though, you need to get them a terrarium that can retain humidity (80% is ideal) and 6 + inches of substrate. Either pla...

Sunflowers

I don't have any experience with feeding sunflower seeds to hermit crabs, but I know it is fairly easy to tell when they are ripe. The first clue for us is the million birds that move into the garden. (We have a mass migration to our yard at the end of every summer for our sunflowers.) The other thi...

Are these new water dishes good?

The mesh is tied on with natural hemp in four places. I figure I will be able tosee if there are any damaged ties when I clean out the dishes each week. Hemp is ok, right?

Are these new water dishes good?

So I replaced the water dishes finally, but wanted to see if you guys think they are ok. Should I but some rocks in there too or is the mesh enough? It holds about two cups of water.http://i24.photobucket.com/alb...1202_zps32b5f363.jpgAlso just wanted to show off how handsome Kermy looks in his new ...

My hermit crab switched shells so happy!

I love it... Diva crabs! My crabs are pretty happy in the shells they came in so far, but they were in decent shells to start with. It was impossible to find good shells to buy here so I bought some online. Where do you guys get shells from?

some food questions

1. I have a bunch of leaves in the yard that are on the safe food list. How would I go about harvesting them and feeding to the crabs. Do I give them freshly washed, dried out, baked, etc? Any over detailed directions would be helpful. (Ex. Step one, pick the leaf off the tree.)2. I know there are a...

new Hermit Crab owner, thanks to my 9 year old son.

What is a buddy on this site and how would I do that? As far as the humidity goes, I think we are doing ok so far. Between the monsoons and the swamp cooler, . Our house is pretty wet (for a desert.) The winter might be another issue. Would multiple moss pits help when humidity is harder to maintain...

new Hermit Crab owner, thanks to my 9 year old son.

Hello! I have been a Hermit Crab owner for 2 days now. My daughter got a Hermit Crab started kit years ago and I decided to buy a book before we actually got the pets to make sure we would be taking care of them correctly. I basically learned that nothing in the kit was right so we never got Hermit ...
