Re: Death due to shell?
Fill these out to give us an idea of your conditions: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=46102 Sent from my LGLS665 using Tapatalk What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Mix of play sand and cocofiber. 6.5" depth in most spots, except where they've b...

Death due to shell?
Sigh. We've had our first non-PPS death. It was my Calypso, who was in a pretty tree snail shell. I have been concerned about her for awhile- about a week ago I had a suspicion she was headed downhill. So, I have been concerned for awhile now that her shell is a size too small for her. I have ...

Re: Do you ISO a molter every time?
I only ISO a molter if they are streaking or surface molting, or if I notice other crabs have unusual interest in a molter. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk My substrate is about 6.5 inches in most spots. Except for their "trails." What does "unusual interest" look like? Would a c...

How often?
How often do you clean your tank? I am now worrying I am being too hands off with my colony. I haven't done a deep clean ever. I have two tanks, 8 crabs, established for 1 year now. I found what I suspect are food mites on two of my crabs yesterday, and now I am wondering if i need to be cleaning mo...

Do you ISO a molter every time?
I ask because to be honest, I have never ISO'd a molter. I have a colony of 8 in two different tanks, and I've only had one issue with a molt and possible canibalism. I am pretty hands off with the colony in general... we know which ones are OK being handled and we occasionally take them out. The ot...

Thanks Panda!

Is burlap OK?
I have seen some of you post that you've used it. I just bought some, and soaked it in a white vinegar/water mix. Then I rinsed it in dechlorinated water. It just has such a chemical-y smell!!! I am paranoid about contaminating the tat. Will the smell subside? It is still wet, so maybe that isn't he...

Re: moss pit advice
This fish net or needlepoint stuff...where can I find it and what's it called? You said craft store - would Michael's have it? Yes, I got mine at Walmart, but I am sure they would have it at Michael's, too. It's pretty handy stuff. I also put it in my deeper water dishes so my tinys don't get stuck...

Re: moss pit advice
I have a large crab that is easily able to push open the lid of his tank (since I have a climbing wall background). That's why I've just resorted to putting weights on top. I use ankle weights since they're pretty heavy and distribute the weight across the whole lid. Make sure the weights make it h...

Re: moss pit advice
For ease of access, you could add a section of plastic/silk vine or fish net. I've done this by either threading the stiff end of the vine in and out of two of the holes or tying on a strip of net. Small clear plastic zip-ties are also perfect for attaching things. I have that plastic needlepoint s...

moss pit advice
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p25/liljennk/0420161635_zpsxo6kd1el.jpg So here is the moss pit: It is approximately 4" deep, plastic, that is. Is this the right amount of moss? I have 2 tinys, 3 smalls, and my two adoptees are mediums bordering on larges. I am concerned that in my 20 gal long, ...

Re: How long to Iso adoptees?
Thank you, all!
Well, it wasn't a surface molt. One adoptee down. I moved the healthy one to the main tank, and will wait for the other to emerge from the sub.
Thank you!
