He just came up from a molt and is much more purple now....more active, too! Right now I caught him sliding off his peanut hut, which is where this whole escapade started. That...

Honestly, I've had crabs for years and they never made it this far to actually go out the door of the lid. I've taped ...

Re: New species of marine hermit crab with candy stripes
It IS very pretty, and hard to find as well. I second that opinion that it should be left in the wild, not be bred for fishtanks.

New species of marine hermit crab with candy stripes
New Scientist has published a story about a new type of hermit crab. They have photos at this link. This crab is dressed to impress in candy-striper legs, so they are calling it the Candy Striped Hermit Crab. New hermit crab has candy-stick legs and a giant spoon-like claw https://www.newscientist....

Re: Busy little crabs
Oh, thank you so much daws409! I actually have some of those in my kitchen drawer. I hadn't remembered the brand name, though. So i'm surprised that this kind of tape will stick to glass. I'll follow the instructions by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. I imagine since I'm not spilling any into the ...

Re: Busy little crabs
I am using this same reptile hammock and can't stand those suction cups either. I tried duct tape but the humidity loosens the tape. Just recently I took some Kinex building sticks from my kid's kit and built little poles to try to tape the hammock to them, but the poles are really wiggly and hermie...

Re: Here are the new shells that just arrived by USPS
Wow! Great selection! And is Master Roshi an E? He is a cutie! Kermie16: Yep! E for ecuadorian and I can't find another like him here in Colorado so to provide him some company I rescued some purple pincers from a reptile store. They tend to stay on opposite ends of the habitat from Master Roshi, t...

Here are the new shells that just arrived by USPS
I ordered from Richard's Seashells based on user recommendations here on the forums. It shipped super fast. Seriously. I've boiled these shells in regular tap water and let them cool off and drain in a colander. Now Master Roshi has a nice selection! He was down for a month or so and just surfaced l...

Hi Lorie LeAnn and Landlubber, I'm so sorry I missed your replies. Just today I started reading down the list of last replies under the button "View your posts". Very true, and good advice to never trust your dog with other pets! I keep my other animals secured when I leave the dog alone in the hous...

I think it is so cute that when Na'meen comes up to the surface, she hangs out here because she fits perfectly. I saw her in the food bow...

I like that idea, too. Do hermit crabs care if their dried worms are cold?Nate the great wrote:This is why I keep my hermie food in the fridge.
I've been better about storing their dried food way up high so the dog can't get it.
