Laurie LeAnn, how do you stir sub down to the bottom of the tank when you have molters down?
I would love to know, because I am afraid of getting too aggressive with cleaning or disturbing the sub in my 55 gal. cause I've pretty much always had at least one down for molt since October.

Re: Oils
I'm curious too. I thought if you gave them enough variety the fresh foods would have enough oils and fats in them to satisfy their needs.
I'm thinking of things like freeze dried shrimp, coconut, or other nuts, peanut butter, etc...

Re: coconut shell huts--where to buy?
Nah, wasn't me. Like I said, I use a small hand saw to cut around the middle of the coconut, scoop out the meat, and then cut up from the bottom on each half a few inches on each side of where the door will go. Once I have the sides of the doorway cut to roughly the same length the shell usually bre...

Re: coconut shell huts--where to buy?
I just used a small saw to cut the coconut in half after draining it.

Re: coconut shell huts--where to buy?
Or get a coconut at the grocery store, they're about $1.50-$3.00 near me. You get TWO cocohuts and a bunch of coconut meat for your crabs as well!

Re: Serious Question: How do they poop?
It looks a lot like dry fish poop, or a thick thread broken up in sections. If you see some thing near or in your food dishes that looks like chunks of tiny twigs that you don't remember introducing to your tank, it's probably poop.

Re: Requesting opinions about hermie health conditions~
Have you checked out the care guides on the forum? I don't want to be pedantic, but it would at least give you a good check list of common conditions and potential issues to check off. it's here: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=92457 and there is also a template the f...

Is my crabitat too cluttered? (pix)
Hi, newish crabber. I have a 4'x2'x1' crabitat, which I think is around 55 gallons if my maths haven't totally failed me. I have 6 PP's 1 medium/ large-ish, 3 mediums and 2 smalls. I've been seeing a few active posts lately discussing the square inches of available space for crabs in addition too th...

Re: Salt to Water Ratio
1/2 Cup = 8 tablespoons (4 Tbs = 1/4 cup), so Instant Ocean is recommending 8 Tablespoons per gallon. There are 4 cups in a quart and 4 quarts in a gallon. Since you are using a quart of water, you should only be using 1/4 the amount of salt you would use in a gallon, or 2 Tablespoons I.O. salt per ...
