Re: I can't get any work done around here without onlookers!
I like the idea of the craft mesh in a net as a platform. Craft mesh is, I swear, one of a crabber's best friends! Yea they really like it and they don't actually try to eat it. I had really nice bendable vines as supports for some things for awhile after the rebuild but after I caught one of the c...

Re: Robinson Crusoe's furniture
This is what ends up happening to me late at night after I'm done working and can't get to sleep. "Well the crabs are up, they wouldn't mind me fiddling with stuff a bit..." then suddenly I'm off building things and forcing them upon the crabitat  Really like the hammock, my crabbies would prob...

It is beautiful! Very creative. P.S. What did you put in the big flat shell? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530A using Tapatalk I like to throw different things in there to see what gets eaten but last night it was some dried fruits and grains with some fish "disc" flakes that I will sparingly give a cou...

I can't get any work done around here without onlookers!
Hey everybody you might remember my crabitat from back in October when I joined up and posted a pic heavy thread with a few updates: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=108875 Was up late experimenting since everyone in the tank was out and about and figured I'd take a few...

Re: Support kitchen organizer??
I had this happen recently to support the bottom level where I have a similar situation going on. To counter it I utilized a piece of plastic canvas like I use for my ramps, wider than the shelf, so that the legs rest on the canvas, covered it with a bit of sub to mask it a bit, and left it in place...

This might sound dumb but should I be able to see a hole where he dug down? I know he is ok I heard his claw again the glass last night. Just wondering? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk Not a dumb question actually, some crabs cover up their tracks  Jules, my tunnel bore, neatly fills in t...

Re: New crab mom with possible molter!
My crabs have been known to dig down and just hang out for half a day because they can. Probably trying to stress me out :D They are probably just destressing still but in regards to the heater you are fine to place it on just make sure to do it above the substrate so that you can heat the tank not ...

Since she's a nurturing type I think showing her information in the guides and various threads in these sections will help her understand more about these little crabbies and their need to not be poked and prodded constantly. Re: Dipping eyestalk down?? Normal cleaning or worrisome?
Might be worth it to give the crab a look over if it will let you. Check to see if any little mites or anything are on the crab and also check for maybe some food or something on the eyestalk just in case. Also in regards to keeping them out of the tank make sure to not have them under too a cold ac...

I can certainly understand that, at least you know you're helping them out by getting rid of those painted shells once their done
I'm sure the rest will give up and switch down the road, just have to have patience with these darn crabbies

Re: Best cheap $ hygrometer/thermometer
If the magnet is strong enough you could always consider putting another magnet on the other side of the glass maybe? I don't think magnets would do any damage to the crabs since they couldn't access the one on the outside. Worth a shot but might not work if your tank glass is super thick or you don...

Love the shots. Glad to see someone decided to check out the changes! It is funny you mention the crabs getting more comfortable with you, at this point I can basically run up to the tank and only the little ones will even be remotely bothered, Jules and Sheldon will even come closer to whatever sid...

Re: Trying out fresh foods...
Tonight I'm trying something I've never tried before and I've never seen it on the HCA before! :) They're getting fresh wild deer meat and fresh wild deer liver (along with some other things!) As soon as I put it in the tank their antennas started twitching like crazy!! We'll see how it goes. :) Se...
