Re: My Pet Sand Has Been Trashed
I've had PP's for a while and I only needed to tidy up around the tank every couple of weeks. And then I added some E's and all heck broke loose... Holes everywhere, anything that can be picked up (shells, decorations, moss balls) ends up in the water dishes, food migrates from the dish in all cardi...

Re: Can I mix vampire and moon crabs?
I've had moon/halloween crabs before. They're aggressive towards anything else, including one another. I had one bully the other one for months. until finally catching it after a molt, killing and eating it. Unless you have a humongous habitat, with plenty of spaces for them to get away and hide, I ...

Re: Halloween Crabs (Gecarcinus quadratus)
That's correct. From the first two that I ordered, one was dead-on-arrival and the other died within a day.
It would be cool if more people would get into raising them and trying to breed them in captivity so they don't need to be taken from the wild.

Re: Halloween Crabs (Gecarcinus quadratus)
I couldn't find them in any pet stores in my area so I ordered them online from Reptile City.JulesRolyCrab wrote:How did you get them? Like, were they in your petstore, or did you have to visit somewhere else?

Re: Halloween Crabs (Gecarcinus quadratus)
Any updates on the crabs? Are they molting? Nothing new to write about. Well, actually one escaped out of the enclosure one night and I found him walking around the kitchen. So now I have added books to weigh down the lid. They're strong little buggers. Other than that, I rarely see them. When...

Re: Favorite / Least favorite food
I have tried over and over to get my guys to eat fresh shrimp. I buy them the fancy organic shrimp and they will not go near it. It is so annoying! Yesterday I bought them one scallop. They are chowing down on it like I have never fed them. Was the shrimp partly or fully cooked? You know sometimes ...

Re: Ice plants in crabitat
I believe I have a fluorescent light. It came with the tank so I'm not exactly sure. They're very hardy, and I'm sure that whatever light you have for your crabs, it will do fine with that.Ryry wrote:What kind of light do you use on your tank? I'm wondering if mine will give enough light for a CA plant.

Ice plants in crabitat
http://beachtreasuresandtreasurebeaches.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/north2.jpg I'm sure many of you living around California know what this plant is, as it's basically a weed around beaches in Northern California. I was thinking of growing some live plants in my crabitat and thought this plant migh...

Re: Favorite / Least favorite food
Thanks a lot, guys. I have two land crabs, not hermies, and they're very picky eaters so I was trying to see what you guys' hermit crabs prefer. I guess in a tank with a bunch of crabs, what one doesn't eat the others most likely will. I've only got two, so it's taking me a while to figure out the "...

What foods do your crabs devour as soon as you put them in the tank? And which foods do you always end up having to take out uneaten the next day?

Re: Halloween Crabs (Gecarcinus quadratus)
I'm so glad I got to capture that footage. That was the first day that I got them. After they've had a change to build their burrow holes, I no longer see them anymore.
