Leaf party
Ok, so today after I cleaned the crabbies water dishes I decided to put a new treat in for them. I had a large bag of dried oak and maple leaves and some from my burning bush. None had ever been sprayed so they were good for consumption. I crumbled them up and added a bit of dried hibiscus flowers t...

Re: Gettin 45 gallon setup, many questions.
I used to have a cocoa mat on one side of my 10 gallon tank. Worked well to keep up humidity. I attached it with velcro that had a sticky backing. I did sew it on the mat for stability. I now have a 20 gallon and bubbles in my pools so no mat on the walls, but my crabs did like it. Also was finally ...

No more flooding
For 2017 I did a complete redo of my crabitat. The crabs went swimming while I cleaned. For some time my crabs have been tunneling under the water bowls every night. And every morning I have found that saltwater dish empty. The water was soaking the substrate. So I took a plastic shoe box , cut it d...

Re: Trend of dead crabs - am I doing something wrong?
I commend you on your efforts. I do believe you should take the time to go to hermit crabs.com and read all the information posted. I did this when I first got my crabs in 2015. Tons of information. About the food, there is a recipe on the hermit crab site that uses cuttle bone, plain dry oatmeal, r...

Re: Rocks
I have some sandstone rocks from the yard I used to have in a fish aquarium. Boiled them and then used them in crabitat. A piece of shale sits on top of their big log and they love hanging out there. The log was a steal, 16.99 at walmart. It was for fish and is about 10x6x6" the are 2 openings one l...

Welcome party
Today I introduced my 2 new crabs to my original 3. I put them in a large pot wit water so they all smell the same, and redid the tank while they got to know each other. ADDED a miss pit again, boiled their extra shells and added some moist EE. AFTER some reconfiguring og the decor they were put bac...

Re: Uncooked meat and flowers?
I saw that hibiscus flowers were listed in some of the crab foods on the Internet, so I picked some from my bushes and dried them out to be like tissue paper. THEN I used kitchen shears and cut them up into shreds. THEY seem to like them and also whole oak and maple leaves.

Re: New and wondering what's up with this behavior
I brought home 2 pp's from SC again this year. Used my plastic container from the ones I got last year. Took coco esrth, 4 inches, with us. Also food and water dishes. One was under the substrate in a couple hours. Have not seen it since 10/3. The other one digs holes and comes up to eat daily. Also...

Re: Petco dollar-per-gallon sale starts 3/27/16
Heads up, you may have to pay tax on the original price for the tank, not the sale price. I purchased a 20 gallon one in January and I paid twice the amount of tax. S

Re: How do I get my coco fiber wall to stay up?
I can take pictures, but can't seem to figure out how to post to this site. I can easily post to my Facebook page but not here. Is there a way to put them on here from my phone. I tried to follow the instructions on this site but I blew it. Sorry.

Re: How do I get my coco fiber wall to stay up?
My mat is on the side of the tank where the water pools are. The crabs don't fall in the pools because I have a couple of tree branches angled from front of tank to the back. They can walk across the branches above the water and get on the fiber mat too. The branches are touching the side of tbe tan...

Re: Do I fill in the holes?
Currently all 4 crabs are active in the afternoon. Thinking this would be a good time to fill in the hole, when I can see them all. They can dig more holes.

Re: Best time of day to relocate?
I am quite new to crabbing, but when my crabs come up from molting or destressing and when I got 2 new crabs, I put about 1 inch of salt water in a container and gave them all a bath together. This way they met on neutral ground and everyone would now smell the same. This has worked for me. Good luc...
