Re: Cute new crab

So, would the indo have a better quality of life with another indo? I think so-is the lack of a species buddy going to cause physical harm and death-unlikely IMHO. Thank you, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for another one then. I'm going to start running out of room in my tank pretty soon lo...

Cute new crab

I just wanted to post a few pictures of my newest crab. Meet Scrum: http://i.imgur.com/yfLTUkp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/u0yGzev.jpg In case you're wondering, Scrum (like the rest of my hermits) is named after the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I took pity on the little guy and bought him from a loca...

Re: New (used) 40 gal. & sand stupor

It's actually sand blasting sand. Since it is winter my options were limited and there was only this and the Quikrete play sand available. I bought the Quikrete first but I returned it because it had a lot of rocks in it, it wasn't a very nice color and it was very dirty when I tried to rinse it eve...

Re: New (used) 40 gal. & sand stupor

OK, so, the sand problem is dealt with and my room is painted and put back together, no more procrastinating! I'm finally posting pictures of the finished 40 gallon. Here it is: Here is the front view. Sorry about the glare, the lighting in my room is bad and it's the best I could do. http://i.imgur...

Re: New adoption!!

Thanks! I can't wait. They're coming from Saskatchewan :p I'm really thankful he let me, he said the reason they decided to sell them is because they realized that they couldn't give the crabs the care they needed. That's nice that he cared for them. I recently tried to do an adoption too but unfor...

Re: New adoption!!

Congratulations on your new crabby friends! I'm sure they'll be so glad to get settled into their new home. It was nice of him to let you have the crabs for free once he saw how good the care that you'll be providing them is.

DIY Mangrove Tree

So I found this pin on pinterest of an easy diy for the hermits which lead me to this tutorial from the crab street journal (http://crabstreetjournal.org/blog/2012/10/16/332/). Basically all you need is a fake vine and a fake plant of your choice and I already had the materials lying around so I dec...

This is what the moss looks like:

I think it is Schreber's moss. At least it looked most like this type of moss when I google image searched it.

Re: New (used) 40 gal. & sand stupor

Thanks for the replies, I'll try a couple of different Home Depot stores and look for the quikrete brand and if they don't have it I'll just buy whatever brand I think will make the best sandcastle consistency once wet. @purpleperson, I seem to recall reading in one of the random threads that you li...

New (used) 40 gal. & sand stupor

The hermit crab upgrade is officially underway! Last weekend I bought a 40 gallon breeder (36" x 18" x 17") off of Kijiji (it's like Craigslist) for only $150 CAD. It's quite a bit bigger than my current 20 g long and my four little guys should be very happy in there. The tank also came wit...

Re: My 20 gallon long

Hmm. I've never had a problem with water leaking out of the shells or the dishes being turned over by crabs. I've only had to refill it when it got dirty because of sand and food particles. My crabs never seem to "rearrange" their crabitat at all, although I think that's about to change because my n...

Re: Post your shell collection!

I realize that I might be using the quote function too much. I'm still new to using forums and I'm not sure when it's necessary and when it's not. Also, sorry if my responses are too long.
