Re: Molting Accident

I was going to pick up another tank for him tomorrow. I have 4 other crabs and don't want to take any chances. If he just molted in the last 48 hours, how long do you think he will need to be secluded? Is he better off since he has already molted and not in the middle of it? I am very new to all of ...

Re: Molting Accident

I dug him back up and put a little container around him to keep him protected. I'll go out tomorrow and get a ten gallon tank and set it up. I didn't see anything around where I dug him up but could have reburied it in my haste. Thank you! Can you tell by the picture where he may be at in his molt? ...

Molting Accident

I was cleaning up my tank today and wanted to take my moss pit in the rubbermaid container and dig out some substrate and lower it down a little in the substrate so it was easier to climb into. I dug out a big handful of sand and then my second handful picked up one of my bigger crabs that was molti...

Re: Hygrometer Challenge

That's how the one I got from National Geographic is. I had really high hopes for it. It sets outside the tank with 2 probes on the inside. I just have no idea what the actual reading is.... :( Thx for your help. Will look into the Reptile Basics.

Hygrometer Challenge

So I have a little dial temp-Hygr and a digital one. I calibrated and seen where the differences were, but over the last month they seemed to really change again between the two of them. So I had read on these boards about the National Geographic Hydro/Temp for $20.00 and bought that. I calibrated t...

Re: Thermostat ?

That's what I was hoping but mine are always in the back under the hide against the tank wall. I thought I had read that it should always be close to at least 80* so I was going to try and make it around 77 in the front and approx 85* in the back. I was concerned 72* was to low. I'm so new to this....

Thermostat ?

Good Afternoon! I have approx. 30 gallon breeder tank (36LX18WX13H ) I am using the Ultatherm heat mat along the back of the tank. The back stays at 80* but the front is about 72* I just purchased a thermostat online to try and get my temps a little higher in the front. Has anyone used a thermostat ...

Re: Ultrathem heat tape

Thx..That's what I did. I was just concerned because I thought maybe the copper should be against it. I realized the pad was putting Styrofoam against it. (you tube to the rescue-LOL)

Re: Ultrathem heat tape

Do you mean you put the copper side against the tank? I don't know what you mean by pad. I am very new to this.

Ultrathem heat tape

I just got my Ultratherm heat tape to put on the back of my tank. What side goes against the glass? The side with the copper on the edge or the flat solid black side.

Well after calibrating all night, Zoo Med is 5% under and Nat'l Geographic is 5% over. At least now I have an idea! Thx everyone for the help!

Re: Finding the Balance

I was just hoping that when you buy something it gives the right information. I have no idea what my humidity is. I do have both in a sealed tight container with some salt for the night. Guess I will have an idea in the morning. This forum has saved me quite a few times since I got these little guys!

Finding the Balance

I'm trying to get my heat and humidity right with my new tank. I bought a Zoo Med hygrometer/thermometer with the 2 little dials and also a digital National Geographic hygrometer/thermometer . My problem is the Zoo Med says my humidity is 71% and the N Geo digital says it is 88%. Big difference. I a...
