Re: Maggot in tank :/

Do you have rotting food that is creating maggots? Possible stow away food? Have you seen flies? If all of your crabs look healthy, I would just get rid of food that has been sitting, dispose of the maggot you found. If you find more, I would probably do a deep clean. Can you post a picture? Maggot in tank :/

Hey all, I haven't been on here in awhile and it seems the tap a talk app has changed a bit since then and I can't find the search bar anymore haha. I used to rearrange the tank regularly but life got busier and I've been slacking in my tank maintenance-- pretty much only in the tank to change water...

Re: Need help raising temperature

I have an ultratherm stretching the length of the back of the tank with cardboard taped over it, as well as 2 smaller store brands on the left side-- I was struggling with temps and was concerned that the 3 of them weren't warming it up enough. Eventually got a new hydrometer/thermometer (only becau...

Re: Petco employee stupidity

[emoji20] it kills me that they don't require their employees to have even a general idea of how to care for the animals they sell. A few weeks ago a girl working at Petco was explaining to someone that the hermit crabs' shells were painted with a special kind of paint that won't chip off, "kind of ...

Re: Naked crab-- can't remember what all I'm supposed to do

I'm very sorry for your loss. :( Sent from my VS880PP using Tapatalk Thanks Rawrgeous. And thanks for your advice! I was struggling with figuring out a way to give him both salt and fresh water close by and your suggestion was perfect. And I feel more confident if it happens again that I'll have a ...

Aww thanks, Kermie. [emoji5] We knew PPS was a risk when we got him so it wasn't as big of a shock as it could've been. [emoji177]

Re: Naked crab-- can't remember what all I'm supposed to do

It sounds like everyone pretty much covered this. I suggest re-shelling him asap and isoing until he gets a bit stronger, offer lots of protein, honey, and calcium such as eggshell, crushed oyster, and cuttlebone as well as a cap of fresh and saltwater. The only thing that might be even slightly co...

I don't think so? If so it was an accident, haha. He's just really pale, I think. If it is an e I need to put some different shells in there [emoji45]

Re: Naked crab-- can't remember what all I'm supposed to do

Thank you both! We checked for the fresh post-molt signs but we're still not sure because he's so tiny. With our larger ones it's always very clear when they've molted-- long black tips and scary looking hair, haha. He's gone back and forth to the water bowl (a/b 5 or 6 inches) a few times and other...

Re: Naked crab-- can't remember what all I'm supposed to do

Sounds like u have the right stuff going on with ur tank. I think first thing to do would be to iso the little guy and to put him in with extra shells, organic honey, peanut butter and a source of calcium like cuttle bone or crushed oyster shells. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thank you! What ...

Naked crab-- can't remember what all I'm supposed to do

Just looked into the tank and noticed one of our crabs is naked. I placed 4 shells close to the little guy and backed away-- I didn't want to make a big commotion and alarm him. Just wanted to check to see what else I should do. He didn't seem too lethargic-- he turned and backed his soft bits up ag...

Using Prime for small amounts of water?

I've finally run out of the first little bottle of water dechlorinator I got and ordered Prime because I've seen so many people recommend it here. The ratio written on the bottle is for large amounts of water but I only need to dechlorinate 3 or 6 cups at a time (3 cups for each dish). I tried to se...

Re: Water/pool question

Mine rarely ever go all the way into our dishes-- I usually just see them sitting at the edge of them. I used to worry if they could get in and out easily but there have been a couple times where the water level was noticeably lower before it was time to change it and I quit worrying, haha. I know t...
