Re: Crab Having a Weird Fun Time

Twitchy has a habit of sticking everything in her mouth no matter what it might be, lol, but she's happy and healthy, so I don't worry about her eating the substrate. I just thought her little act was adorable, she reminded me of people trying to warm their hands by rubbing them together and then ho...

Re: Ash trees

I definitely think I'm just going to avoid it until more input can be gathered from others that may try it. Thank you anyways! :)

Crab Having a Weird Fun Time

One of my crabs, Twitchy, is out a little earlier than usual today. She fell asleep next to the glass a while back and when I checked on her again just now, she was awake. She would sweep her little claw along the glass and pick up a little bit of substrate and eat it. Then she would rub the fuzzy p...

Re: Ash trees

I don't use my crabs as test subjects, I care too much about them. If they were in their natural environment and came across it themselves, that would be a different story, but these little guys rely on me for everything. :) I think I'll pass just in case it is going to be bad for them. But I have n...

Ash trees

I have an ash tree in my backyard and one of its branches broke off in a wind storm last night. The safe foods says that ash wood is fine, but I found nothing on the other parts (leaves). I think they would love it if they got their claws on it, but I know some parts of mostly edible things aren't e...

Re: Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

@DragonsFly, thank you very much! The substrate wasn't improving with the bubbler until I gave the tank a light mist with water, but now it's dry at 1" instead of 2", so there is slow improvement now. The crabs never seemed to care and are still happy, they just have a new thing to tr...

Re: Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

I have had the new bubbler going in both water tubs and the lid closed for about 5-6 hours now. I'm not seeing any change with the substrate yet, but the humidity has bumped up to 87%. Hopefully in the morning the substrate will be a little damp at least. My largest crab is out early and checking ou...

Re: Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

I will pick up the supplies tomorrow and see what happens with the bubbler. I have the Zoo Med hydrotherm, which I think calibrates itself because I can't (probably unless I unplug it). I'll read through the instructions again and try to reset it to see if it is having problems. I do have a cheap li...

Re: Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

I was thinking of the bubbler. My water dishes are "Rapid Mac Cooker" bowls that I found on sale when looking for something suitable, lol. According to the company, it's 3.5'' deep (7.5 x 6.1 x 3.5"), which is deep enough for my largest to submerge for now and for a few more molts too. I have a spar...

Re: Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

It is dry to the touch up until about 2'' down. Last night it stayed when I poked my finger into it over on the side of the fogger, but today the top 2'' isn't holding up.

Humidity and Heat Fine, Substrate Drying Out?

My crabs have all been doing great, I'm waiting on one last one to come up from their first molt with me and have three others down molting too. It's been getting hotter here in Arizona and even with my fogger set to keep the humidity at 85%, my substrate is beginning to dry out. I have heat tape al...

Re: My first tank is starting to look decent!

It looks great so far! I like the crab sitting right in the middle of the tank in the picture. I agree with the velcro, it's what I use for the climbing fiber and just do a quick check to be able to replace it as soon as it needs it.

Re: Pictures Finally!

I'm sorry Candie. I don't link the pictures to post directly onto here because I would mess it up terribly, so I load them to photobucket and just put the link at the bottom. If you clicked on that and weren't able to see them, I'm not sure what would be doing that then, because I made sure to set m...

Re: Pictures Finally!

Thank you, I found a cheap refurbished Nikon Coolpix L620 and I'm in love with how nice the pictures tend to turn out with little effort. :D
I'm glad most of the crabs don't mind some handling so I can put them up in the shell shop and wait for them to come out, which also helps.

Pictures Finally!

I finally got a new camera, so I can take pictures of my crabs now! With an update, the other day my spouse convinced me to get four more little guys, so we're up to 8. We did get them from a chain store, but I felt it was okay because besides being a little crowded, they were in as good of conditio...
