Re: The Hermit Crab Patch Premixed Substrate
Our care sheets here at the HCA recommend marine salt water. http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=92457 "For substrate that stays fresh for a long time and resists mold growth, you can use regular strength salt water when wetting it down the first time. The salt helps the hum...

Re: The Hermit Crab Patch Premixed Substrate
The only problems with salt in the sub is that if salt water sprays out of the sw pool, it can build up salt concentrations in the substrate which may burn the crabs. Washing it with fw would reverse this.... It's rather easy to make your own, but if your happy using premixed then there's no proble...

Re: The Hermit Crab Patch Premixed Substrate
Oh thank goodness! I am on a Hermit crab Facebook page and I'm pretty sure she is one of the admins. She said something about the salt water burning them. But I've been using this the entire time and paying a pretty penny for it bc i don't know how or have the time to mix my own. And i just switched...

The Hermit Crab Patch Premixed Substrate
Someone told me the premixed substrate from The Hermit Crab Patch is not safe for my crabbies bc they mix it with salt water...is this true? I've been using it for the past 2 yrs & so far my crabbies seem fine.

Re: Hello! Shell question
Oh that stinks...so close bit so far away! Lol I have 3 children i would have to take along so that would be too far too drive, there and back. :( I also just found out you can't transport them when they are molting so i will have to wait until they come up before i can find them a new home. Re: Hello! Shell question
That's cool...it's a small world! Most people on here are from the south! Lol I have 2 hermit crabs that are currently molting but I'm trying to find a new home for them. Do you know anyone local who would be interested in adopting them?

Re: Hello! Shell question
Where are you located? I'm looking for someone to adopt my crabs and all their supplies are going with them. I guess the chances of you living close by are pretty slim but just thought I'd ask.

I never would have thought to look there! Thanks again.Rawrgeous wrote:No problem! The bird section is also a cool place to find crab stuff. Just stay away from ceder. But plastic ladders work perfectly for climbs and such.

Re: Pictures of your 10gal crabitat
Cholla, or suction cup shower caddies are always a nice addition to any new tat. Like others mentioned a moss pit is another good edition as it provides a hide. I used to have a small shower caddy when I had my 10 gallon, and I had moss in it. I also had a small soap dish that I used to keep their ...
