When mine are down I don't put food out until I see them come up.

How long have you had the moss pit and shell shop?
It took weeks for mine to climb up to the moss pit.

Re: MOLD!!
You can treat the wood with a salt water paste and bake the wood to help with the mold. Any time you use wood you will get mold. I personally have changed everything out and no longer use wood or if I do use wood I only use it until the mold sets in and then I throw it away. But I know there are a f...

Re: Do you ISO a molter every time?
I personally only iso a molter if I have a problem. I have 13 in a 65 gallon and have NEVER had a problem. All 13 have molted at least once and quite a few have already done their 2nd molt.
How deep is your substrate? If you have enough substrate then you should be okay to leave the molter alone.

Re: Molting in the Moss Pit
All of my crabs will sleep in the moss pit huddled together. It's so funny cuz you can see it tipping! I have one crab that only comes out of the moss pit about once a week.
Has this crab already molted?

Re: humidity?
You need a solid lid. They breathe thru their gills hence the need for humidity. With the solid lid they will get air when you feed them and change their water etc. The solid lid isn't air tight like a Tupperware lid.
Hope that helps! [emoji258]

Re: Back to back molts?
It's not uncommon for the smaller crabs to molt once a month the first year. As they get older they won't molt as much but it will be longer molts.
For example this year every month for a week or two. Next year a molt every 3-4 months for 6-8 weeks.
Hope that makes sense and helps.

Re: My hermie is down but not out
It's okay to worry. We all were in your position at one time. Some crabs especially the ones from PetSmart will sometimes go down to de stress. Because of what they've been thru. Some times for days even weeks. It's never a good idea to dig up a crab. Depending on the size/age some crabs can go down...

Re: Help with humidity
80's temp & 80's humidity is ideal but can be hard to keep at those exact numbers.
What are you doing to make your humidity?
Do you crack open your lid, to release some of the humidity?

No, those are the good ones!! Lol
Having high humidity isn't harmful. It's the low humidity that can do damage to their gills.

Re: New to Molting
They go down in the sand to de stress. Totally normal and it's okay. He might be down there for days or even weeks. No need to worry as long as you know he didn't get out. Sorry for asking that question. The way I read that statement I thought you were saying you started with 3 and sadly now only ha...
