When the sand starts to dry at the top I add some more water. I've been successful having that process and only have to re-wet the sand about once a month. I use bottled water.

Sandcastle. It's general purpose, out of the bag, sand. Just pointing out again how I've kept them alive for over 3 years. They've all molted more than once. They've changed shells. They're active. They seem happy. I posted the pictures mostly to give people an idea besides an aquarium. The aquarium...

Humidity shows 88%. It has a foot of wet sand across the bottom and big water areas. Temp shows 80. They are good. I think you may just be hung up on it not being an aquarium and that's what you're used to. The plexiglass works the same and has the same effect.

They were in the little one for over 3 years now. The plexiglass around the sides and top keep the humidity just like an aquarium.

Old crabitat vs new crabitat
I'm currently migrating our crabs. They've been alive roughly 3 years. The first house was a 3 foot x 2 foot home. It had 30" above sand to climb. Bulk Shells?
Hopefully my first post isn't out of line. Local pet stores only carry small shells... I assume because no one's crab lives that long unless they actually research and learn about it. Some of my crabs are outgrowing my shell supply though and had me searching for more. I've bought a fair bit at www....
