Re: Bought in painted shells

If you have an assortment of shells avaliable, they will change on their own. Usually when I bring a new one home from a pet shop, the first thing they do is swap shells( I have around 30+shells in cage) Once they leave it, give it a few hours and remove it. Only reason I say to wait and not instant...

How fast have you seen a crab molt?

I have been crabbing off and on for a long while now and have had too many molts to count. On Friday 7/14 I stopped by my local pet shop to browse around. I got to the hermit crab tank and found 4 dead guys and no water. They died coming out of thier shells into the water dish, probably suffocating ...

Re: Crab fell about 8 inches

I wouldn't worry about it. These guys fall off trees in the wild and are usually fine.

maltodextrin?

I asked the clerk at a local store for all natural pumpkin seeds. After getting home, i seen they contain salt and matodextrin. Is this HC safe? Waiting to add it to diet until I hear from others. TY

Re: Pinched pincher

I have one that came up from a molt with a pinched pincher. He was still able to eat fine. He still had function of it, it was just kind of crushed looking and miss shaped.I seen him one time pin down apple chunks with the smashed claw and use his small one to tear and bring to his mouth. About a mo...

Re: fresh molted crab. tips of legs way longer than before?

Update: Yesterday I had an unexpected surprise around feeding time. This guy came up out the ground right in front of me from a molt. Last time I recall seeing him was about 3 weeks ago. He was sporting a turbo that I don't even recall having. He has grown a lot in size and no longer has any "deform...

Re: MOLD!!

This happened to me before. I ended up boiling the wood that got mold on it in Instant ocean salt water and then microwaved it. It killed the mold and I haven't had any in a few months. It does come back eventually but The "treatment" seems to hold it off for a bit. I have considered replacing my wo...

underground "cave"

I have added a new feature to my crabitat and would like to see if there is any downside to it. I added one of the half log hideaways underground to make a cave like area. Is there any disadvantage to this? I figured it would be nice for them to dig down and not have to worry about the top collapsin...

Re: slumping over,still alive (strawberry)

Sorry for the delay, first off, chicken was not the cause of death. Mine eat chicken all the time, and I have never had a problem. The main thing I would say, is the fact that he was the only straw you had. My Straws are an extremely tight knit family. Like 110% more than my PPs. They literally are...

Re: slumping over,still alive (strawberry)

Yeah, my brain works weird when tired. Its just I couldn't really see anything out of the ordinary, so i thought maybe it was airflow. An inch hole sounds rather small IMO, I try to go at least a tank side inch wide strip for my crabs. A small hole doesn't sound like there can be a great movement o...

Re: Hermit crab missing outdoors

I live in jax fl and as long as he had shade... Its 100% possible, unique to find him again, but completely possible! Our humidity is so high when u walk out the door that you feel like you took a second shower... A hot sweaty one lol! I don't even use a heater in summer. I CANNOT believe you found...

Re: I don't know what to do!

Thanks for your help! What is the benefit of installing the UTH on the side of the tank? I never understood that. Also, what's the best way to regulate humidity? I know a hygrometer measures it, but how can i alter it? If you put the UTH on the bottom you could "cook" your crabs accidentally when t...
