Oops. Molting crab was under the water dish!

I have one molting crab that I haven't seen in a while and one who is... very energetic. I call him Mr. Energy.

He made a complete mess in the fresh waterbowl and I went to clean it out when lo and behold, Mr. Shy, my molter was under there. I quickly replaced the dish.

I hope I didn't do any harm.

Re: Mr. Energy is back and ready to... dig under again.

I saw him again last night. He's a big mud ball, all covered in sand. I looked around and he hasn't finished eating his coconut from last time so I haven't added any more. Mr. Energy was a small but now he's on the borderline medium. It must have been a huge molt. His tank mate Mr. Shy is also molti...

Mr. Energy is back and ready to... dig under again.

 He came, he saw, he... reburied himself. Mr. Energy was my first molter. He was always a tornado in the tank, hence the name. As soon as I saw he was up, I added his favorite food (fresh shredded coconut) Into his tank. He ate at first but then got to work pulling -all- of the coconut into his...

Eating the substrate?

I have two more hermies. Digger and Dizzy. Digger is molting and Dizzy has the place to himself. Dizzy is a beautiful dark red purple pincher. His big claw has striking white tips that I hope he keeps when he eventually molts. He was in the tank using his big beautiful claw like a geisha would use c...

Re: Hermit Crab only eats coconut?

Really! Wow! Now I feel bad for trying to feed them other things because I thought they were going to starve. I had no idea coconuts were so nutritious! Thank you so much! I'm learning so much about them. This morning I'm going to offer them more coconut and shrimps along with scraps from my kitchen...

Hermit Crab only eats coconut?

I've been offering a variety of foods to my hermit crab, Mr. Shy. Foods I've offered include the following: dried shrimp kombu seaweed boiled egg cuttlebone shavings oak leaves maple leaves carrot shavings But there's one treat that is preferred over all else and that's coconut shavings. Fresh ones....

Re: Hello

If you google the words "isolation tank hermit crabs" it's the third link on Google. :)

You might want to remove the page or edited it with a redirect!

Re: Hello

Every website I've been to, told me I need an Iso tank for Molting crabs. Including this one. http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/pages/iso.html Maybe someone should update the page to state that none of that is necessary for Molting crabs, so that new crabbers don't waste time and money getting th...

Re: Hello

The ISO tank is in a room that's far away from everything. IT's great for new crabs and motling crabs so they get a lot of privacy. My main tank which is supposed to be where they'll be, is much more easily accessible for viewing and care, so I'll move them there. :)

Re: Hello

Yeah! Two was as much as I could get. They seem to be getting along just fine. Once they both molt, I'm going to move them out of the ISO tank and use that tank for something else. I think in an emergency, a Critter Keeper will do, but I don't see the need to ISO them just because one is molting any...

Hello

On Saturday I purchased my very first Hermit Crabs. One was named Mr. Energy because he seemed very healthy and strong. He took a great interest in the water and food and digging. He didn't change shells but maybe he will after he comes up from a molt which is what he is doing now. I hope he comes u...

Re: First Crab Question: Can I purchase crabs one by one?

My crabs prefer coconut and kombu seaweed.

I think I will go and get come dried shrimps and cuttlebone to see if they like that. They're ignoring the boiled egg I try to feed them.

Re: First Crab Question: Can I purchase crabs one by one?

Just two then? That's perfectly alright with me. I will try to go get them today. The tanks are really stable in environment and should they decide to molt, I'll not have to fiddle with them. I'll send pictures! EDIT: Thank you for showing me that link about the food. After doing a bit of googling, ...
