New guy here, and some pics of crabs and such.

Hi I have a thread over in the crabitat forum that I've been building my crabitat in, but figured I'd make one in the picture section since I'll be posting a lot of pics now. I got some new crabs today, as the 2 we had one of them went down for a molt almost immediately and the other guy looked kind...

Re: In need of opinions on inexpensive (but good) substrate

You probably need at least 400lbs of sand and 2 of the 3 block packs of eco earth, but even then you're only talking 60 bucks or so, really not that bad for such a large tank.

Re: New to the forum, and building new crabitat.

Hmm so ever since he moved into that conch type shell he's been less active. He dug a hole under one of the logs for him self but he can't seem to bury himself only dig it down and sit in it, the hole isn't that deep and you can see him on the top, he sort of crawls out of the hole for a bit and sit...

Re: Automation

Any of the aquarium controllers should technically work, they generally are just on/off and variable power outputs and such.

Re: Maximum temperature?

I use this insulating bubble wrap stuff from home depot, it's silver like that car stuff but it's bubble wrap. It actually has an R value but I forget what it is lol. It works really good though. I put some behind the UTH to help keep the heat in the tank.

Doesn't Petco have little 5 or 8 gallon tanks that are similar size to that pet carrier?

Re: help! overspray from msw bubbler and mold

Mold spores are everywhere, in all homes, in all air we breathe. It just takes the right conditions to spawn and start growing. So far I have not had any mold issues in my tank bit it's still new so fingers crossed.....

Re: Automation

I plan to take a stab at automatic the humidity, temperature, and even night/day lighting heating etc at some point. I'll probably use on of the Arduino projects that are out there for fish tanks already. It's going to be a while of though and food will still be something I have to do. Of course I'm...

Well woke up this morning and went to take a pic of him and he swapped shells again! This time to one that we had before the eBay order arrived yesterday lol.

Re: New to the forum, and building new crabitat.

You know he is smaller......he could be the brain lol. I'm not sure if he'll survive though. I'm hoping and we will see. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow of him in the new shell. My daughter gets mad at me for calling it a him because she called it a girl and o told her we don't really know if it...

Re: New to the forum, and building new crabitat.

It would be further along sooner but funds were tight after vacation lol. Hopefully next week (end of the month) I'll be able to order a bunch of habitat decorations and stuff.

And yes pinky has been quite comfortable since the day we put him in there, the other one just dug a hole immediately.

Re: New to the forum, and building new crabitat.

The bigger crab (apparently who's name is pinky) came out of his hole and then immediately switched into one of the new shells I out in today! His was the last of the painted shells so I'm happy all those are out.

Yes that stuff is coming next, I have some chola picked out and plan on getting some other stuff as well.

Also the substrate is at least 10" deep.
