Ultratherm UTH insulating questions
I replaced my does-absolutely-no-heating ZooMed UTH and bought a nice Ultratherm UTH. It's the full length of my 10gallon tank. So far, it is keeping my tank 5 degrees above room temperature, consistently. This is pretty good most of the time, but now that winter is approaching 5 degrees above room ...

Re: Thinking of making a new level
I'm in the thinking stages on adding a new level as well. I'm very interested in what others have used that works. My current thought is to use suction cup hooks to create a hammock of fish net. Then lay on some coco fiber mat to create a surface. I would use some bendable wired ivy for a way up. Th...

Heating Questions
As I work on improving my crabitat I am stuck on heating. I have a 10 gallon glass tank. Currently, I use a ZooMed UTH that is attached to the back side of my tank. It sits above my substrate and covers half of the glass. I don't think it really changes the temp in the tank though. Currently the tan...

Re: New crabs and improved crabitat
Looks good! I have that same hinged lid and bless it every day: holds in heat and humidity beautifully and offers easy access to the tank for spot cleaning, etc. So sweet that your lone crab was excited to see companions! Chirping is usually a sign of distress but, after he sat on both of them and ...

New crabs and improved crabitat
If you remember I posted about my accidentally crab-napped crab a few weeks ago. Here was his home then... http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c333/alhj/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpseezujhr6.jpeg I upgraded his home a bit before we went to the beach where I planned on getting a new crab. Added playsand t...

Re: Questions about basic crabitat
Thank you everyone! I've got a crab shopping list ready to go! With first things first being better and deeper substrate. I'm also going to find something to make a moss pit, and will definitely be attempting to move the uth to the back side. While at the beach I'm hopeful to find some better shells...

Questions about basic crabitat
I inadvertently brought home a small PP crab while on a cruise back in November. I picked up a pretty shell, checked it for life (I promise, I really did look!), finding no signs of life, I dropped it into my beach bag. This poor little crab managed to survive zipped up in this backpack for 5 days. ...
