If it happens in nature, why would you think it’s bad in captivity?

HELP! Crab crawled out, fell, out of shell, lost 3 legs, not moving, antennae still moving
1. Reshell 2. Keep him warm 3. Healing foods (honey, bee pollen) and both kinds of water in reach. 4. Dark shelter I had a crab I disturbed molting years ago. Either he had a bad molt already or I injured him. He dropped his big claw and most of his legs. After almost a year in isolation, with good ...

Re: Help!! Algae in crabitat? Long post
I have had algae on my damp end where the moss pits are and fewer UTHs for years. It hasn’t really spread and doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Re: Naked under the sub, please help
Leave him be until he comes out. Then make sure he has access to calcium, minerals and healing foods.

Re: What other pet products are safe?
I think if it’s safe for reptiles and birds (which can be very delicate), it’s likely ok. As long as the only ingredients are dried natural ingredients, I’ll feed them to my crabs. Re: Water Source Fail, revisited
Yes, it’s the open short end that gets sunlight. The other two sides that get sunlight are covered by UTHs.

Re: Water Source Fail, revisited
Clarification: algae in the sub??? Or in your water sources? Complete and total agreement here; I wish we could get laws passed to ban sale of any wild animals, period. The notion of removing these animals by the thousands from delicate island ecosystems to sell them as "pets" for children, with mi...

Re: Water Source Fail, revisited
I didn’t watch the whole video yet. I think it is likely that awfully functioning filtered aquarium is better for the crabs. But I’ve had crabs 9 years. If my original two, one died the first year and one either died last year or has been molting for over a year. The second pair I got 8 years ago ar...

Re: Crab grabbing onto other’s shell and holding on
Upgrading to a larger space may help them to feel less compressed, but again, adding new members to an established pair or group in captivity will always cause upheavals no matter how large their habitat is. Sometimes they will re-establish new patterns of interaction and re-stabilize, sometimes yo...

Re: Adding space to 40 breeder?
When calculating space for crabs, it's the floor space molting space) that is important for determining how many crabs of what size in what size of tank. So altho building up is your preference, it won't increase the floor/ molting space, so I would increase the tank size instead. If I build up, I ...

Adding space to 40 breeder?
I have 6 crabs now. My mom died and I took in her two in May. They are as follows (based on how long I’ve had them) Brownie - tennis ball sized, 8 years Stripes- tennis ball sized, claw and legs bigger than Brownie’s, but not in a bigger shell yet, 8 years Teeny - a little bigger than a gold ball, 4...

Crab grabbing onto other’s shell and holding on
I hope you get some baby hermies in the end! Oh I won’t, they have to be born in the ocean or really equal conditions. Teeny won’t even let me see if she has eggs. I just hope my crabbies continue to live together in peace. They’ve all been so busy and vigilant this past week. https://uploads.tapat...

Re: My Hermit Crab Has Lost 4 of its Legs
How is the crab doing? I had a crab drop all but three limbs after a disturbed molt. I put him in isolation for about 9 months (he was a big guy, took a while to molt) and fed him honey and bee pollen in addition to regular foods. After his next molt, he has all his legs, albeit different sizes. Now...
