Why???
Why would my brother adopt the crabs from me and then decide not to follow the advice I sent him, only to get rid of them last year because they were “stinking” too bad? He seemed really excited about adopting them from me but then, once I gave them to him, he lost interest in them after having them...

Re: Question about why people think hermits don’t need a lot of space and accessories
My brother did tons of research 24 hours prior to adopting the crabs from me but I’m wondering if he looked at a pet store’s care guide and chose to go with that because that was easier to follow than the HCA’s guidelines. So it sounds like I had a right to be worried he was not following the HCA’s ...

Is there anyone on this forum who rescued a couple of crabs in College Station, Texas?
I had two female crabs last year that I gave to my brother and he rehomed them this spring. I was told he gave them to a couple of kids but I want to be sure they were given to hermit crab rescuers and they are with someone who knows what they’re doing.

Re: Question about why people think hermits don’t need a lot of space and accessories
CurlySister is saying if my brother didn’t need to buy a bunch of expensive accessories to care for the crabs, he didn’t have to. The tank I gave him was perfectly fine and it was perfectly okay for him to stick to the basics if that’s what he chose to do. I was just concerned that he was not giving...

Question about why people think hermits don’t need a lot of space and accessories
Why do people think hermit crabs only need one tank size such as a twenty gallon tank and only an inch of substrate, which does not allow them to burrow?

Re: Adoptions
I gave them to my brother and my mom has told me he doesn’t want to talk about the crabs. The last update I got was that he’s figured out how to take care of them, they don’t go through a lot of water, one walks around while the other one just sits in the corner. He’d spent hours researching their c...

Adoptions
What are the rules with crab adoptions? I adopted my crabs out to my brother a couple of months ago right before I moved but I have no idea if he is even caring for them properly. I am not allowed to follow up to make sure they’re receiving proper care. We have likened it to when you give a baby up ...

Crabs adopted by a family member
I was not sure where to put this but my crabs were adopted by my brother. I actually sent him care sheets from here and he spent HOURS researching. Like he was up until 3 in the morning studying up on hermit crab care. I was told my brother would take good care of them but unfortunately, I have no w...

Re: Tupperware lid as a food dish
I thought of this after I realized that there is not enough room on standard reptile food dishes for all the foods that they need.

Tupperware lid as a food dish
I’m thinking of using a Tupperware lid as a food dish to hit all parts of my crabs’ diet. This way they can seek out what they’re needing.

Re: Crabs aren't digging
While it’s more expensive, I got my play sand from Amazon and mixed it with Eco Earth. One brand I use is called WeJe play sand. Here’s a link to one of the brands that I use: https://www.amazon.com/Play-Sand-bag-sand-fine/dp/B073XVQFPJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_71?keywords=play+sand&qid=1568752976&sr=8-71#immer...

Re: Crab halfway out of shell and limp, not moving
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Black and white gravel-ish pebbles. It’s about 2 inches deep Hi there, I’m going to respond with Crabby33. Gravel is not recommended. Most people here use a 5:1 ratio of play sand/eco earth to mimic their natural habitat. It needs to...
