I think the clown thing is almost everywhere in the US at least. We have them up in CT too. And there are announcements with up coming Halloween festivities that there will be "no clowns" present. [UNAMUSED FACE]

Re: How to mix sub properly help
Yes, literally you can use a measuring cup. I scooped it out of the bag like I was baking. It takes a long time. Or use a container you know is a specific amount (I have porcelain coffee mugs that I know are a cup that I use for cooking sometimes).. A cup is a cup. Just make sure it's clean, obvious...

Re: How to mix sub properly help
I have a 10 gallon tank & do playsand & EE. I bought a bag of EE, as I found it softer & more fine than the bricks you moisten yourself. I got a big pan & poured 4 cups at a time of sand, poured about 3/4 cup of salt water & mixed it (adding more sand or water if needed.. I would test it by picking ...

Re: This little guy....
So cool! He/she doesn't even look real lol. I'm in CT and it amazes me the difference from state to state in vegetation and critters. Nice pic! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Is TropicShells.com a good place for hermie stuff?
I think, as I've read here, that 10 hermies may be a bit much for a 55 gallon.. depending on the size. It seems to be a better idea to allow 10 gallons of space per hermit crab, again depending on the size. Less chance of aggression towards each other.

Re: Naked and in SW
She has been ISO'd since my son discovered her this morning- it's been about 14 hours. I have honey and peanut butter in there- do you recommend anything else? I thought I saw in another thread you had recommended to put something that's easy to eat, something they don't have to pick apart? That mak...

Re: Naked and in SW
I thought she passed, but when I opened the lid to remove the water, she reacted. Re-shelling a hermit feels performing heart surgery. Well, I imagine. I re-shelled her (awful). She has local honey & peanut butter near her face. I put deeper bowls of FW & SW in there. She's very weak. I'm not sure i...

Re: Naked and in SW
The ISO has a thermometer in it, reading 85. It's pretty humid, I don't have a hygrometer in it, but the container is foggy, so I imagine it's OK. I keep replacing the SW. Shelly is reactive to the lid being opened & the water being replaced, as she is still in the cap of water. Sent from my SAMSUNG...

Naked and in SW
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Mostly EE, some sand towards the bottom- I wasn't able to mix as I added since someone is hopefully molted. I added an additional 2-3 inches after recommendations over the course of a week or 2 to try to avoid collapsing any tunnels....

I noticed a lot of misinformation. It was/is kind of exhausting to comb through. Thank you for the ideas

Info
Could someone direct me to articles/info about hermit crabs please? I have read, I believe, every single file on here (which are awesome!). I'm ready for more. I'd like to learn more about the PP species (what I have currently)/native area conditions, etc. I've been reading some older threads & the ...

Re: Keeping my crabs warm in a cool home..
My house is cool also. I *hate* being hot. I have a 10 gallon tank as well and I stuck a small UTH (ultratherm^) on the back of it above the substrate - I wish I got a bigger one but oh well it's doing ok. It is currently 82 degrees on one side, 75 on the cooler side of the tank. My house is 70. The...

Re: Why does my hermie look like a booger?!
The shell change happened so quickly I couldn't get a picture. Slug-like is definitely a good description. The pictures I saw looked more like a lobster body. Well, that's a relief that it sounds as if it's normal. Thank you

Re: How to pick a new rescue crab
I've read to pick on that is active and/or reactive to being picked up (although being handled can stress them, but if it's to be taken home it'll have to be done anyways). Also, they mentioned it should feel appropriately "heavy", basically not like an empty shell. Maybe antenna fluttering. I'm sti...
