Re: Crab Suicide?
Thanks for the replies! We've definitely got some overcrowding issues bc I ended up helping people out and taking crabs that they couldn't care for any longer. Hopefully they'll all be happier and healthier in the new tank soon! Carla, who we just lost, came from horrible conditions at a beach-front...

Crab Suicide?
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Mix of play sand & coco fiber (5:1 ratio); 6-7" deep 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? digital gauges, located...

Crab suicide??
This morning I awoke to find one of my crabs naked and dead in the water bowl. She's big enough and the water was low enough to know this wasn't an accidental drowning. It looks like she abandoned her shell on the opposite side of the tank and just went to the water bowl to die. There's no sign of i...

Repeat Molt so Soon?
Hi! Molting question here.. I have 5 crabbies in 20g tank, the first one arrived back in July and the last one in Sept. Since then, 3 have molted successfully! Yay! The last two that haven't molted yet dug down about a week ago and seem to be down for their molts. The strange thing is that my first ...

Molting crabs too close together?
This is our first experience with molting. We currently have 5 crabs in a 10 gallon tank, have had them for about a month. I was getting ready to move them into a 20 this weekend. One dug down under their favorite log 2 days ago and I haven't seen him come up since, so I'm assuming he went down for ...

How to pick a new rescue crab
We are currently at the beach in NC and the local beach shop is of course selling hermit crabs. After learning about the care that they require I'm so sad to see them in a big wire cage with no substrate, nowhere to dig or hide. All in painted shells. We would like to rescue 2 of these crabs (all ap...

Re: New owner, IDK if crab is sick
Oh no :( This sounds exactly like what's going on: "Symptoms include leg loss, lethargy, not eating, not responding, slowing down, sitting in one location for days at a time." I have put her in an Iso tank now since she isn't buried and I just introduced 2 new crabs so I don't want them going after ...

To bathe or not to bathe?
I keep reading different advice on whether to bathe my PPs or not. I have 3 in a 10gal tank and one in an Iso tank right now, not sure if sick or surface molting but has not been moving more than a few leg wiggles for several days. 2 of the crabs are new and just moved in today, I've read conflictin...
