Maybe she just wanted some wiggle room for the molt. I had a hermit crab that wore a shell much too big for it too. Reminds me of a baby in a giant hat that can barely see over the brim.

This Purple Pincher was a pity purchase several years ago and didn't make it, but you can see how absolutely massive those legs can get with age.
