I know this was a while ago but your tank looks amazing! I want to be one of your hermit crabs [emoji24] where did you get the sand castle? And are those real plants?

Re: A long time underground
I've had my crabs for 6 years, and when I first got my biggest crab (Phil, about a 1.2" shell opening), he dug underground and stayed there for 4 whole months. I thought for sure he was dead but I wanted to wait til I cleaned the tank to dig him up. It was only about a week before I was about to cle...

Anyone know what this bug is?
I was cleaning out the crabitat yesterday (just sifting the poop out and moving the sand around, adding more coco fiber) and I found a whole lot of these guys running around (I'll see if I can attach a picture). I think they're springtails, but I just wanted to make sure that they're not harmful. I'...

How much sand for 10 inches in a 65 gallon?
I'm finally upgrading from a 30 gallon to a 65! This isn't super urgent, but for anyone who has bought a 65 gallon, how many 50 pound bags of sand did you use? I tried to do some maths to figure it out, but it seemed way off. I'm planning for 10 inches of sand, because my purple pinchers aren't all ...

Re: Ultratherm uth's
Where the cord is attached, one side is flat and the other side is bubbled/rounded. The flat side goes against the tank.... On my UTH, the copper strips are away from the tank and the solid black side is facing the tank. Hope that helps! Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk Thanks daws! This really he...

Ultratherm uth's
So, I just received my ultratherm uth, and for some reason I couldn't find the place in the instructions about which side goes against the tank. There's the side with two copper strips, and one side that is completely black. I know that a lot of you have uth's, and this is my first one, so I'm inter...

Re: Please help I don't know what I'm doing
Thank you for replying. I've researched a lot on the website I've found it very helpful. I live close to the beach so I thought I'd have time to get everything set up since it's still warm here. I got Hermine at a flee market and after seeing how they were taken care of I wish I could have them all...

Re: Please help I don't know what I'm doing
(I'm not the most experienced crab owner, but I'll tell you what I know) I responded with a T- 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? -eco earth 4-6 inches T- a minimum of 6 inches of substrate should be used. Many of us have found success with a mixture of play sand and ...

Re: I have a question for those with ultratherms
You can also order an Ultratherm UTH from beanfarm.com [emoji4] I would have to suggest not getting one that is longer than the length of the tank because I don't think they should be bent.. though someone can correct me if I'm wrong. *Edited to add- Reptile Basics and bean farm had different sizes...

I have a question for those with ultratherms
So, I'm ordering a heater for my 29 gallon tank, and I went to the reptile basics website to look around for ultratherm heaters. However, one heater I wanted to get was too long and another was too short. I'm also planning on ordering reflectix insulation to go around the tank and on the back of the...

That's also a good idea, I'll probably end up doing that from now onCrabMater wrote:hi, I always keep my waters in the fridge or they will go rancid.

Re: I have a question about Marine salt water
I keep my water at room temperature. If you decide to refrigerate you waters, you need to bring them to room temp before placing in the crabitat. If you put it into the crabitat really cold, the hermit crab(s) can get shock. I'm thinking it has something to do with the stress coat water conditioner...
