humidity 87%
Hi! I have found a lot of info about raising humidity levels, but wanted to see if there is a "too high" level.
I have plastic over a screen lid and can easily remove some of the plastic if it is a problem. It seems to be running 87% over night and around 90% during the day...
Thank you!

OK, here is the finished product...although I am sure we are going to continue to tinker with it and am definitely planning to add a moss pit soon.

Thank you for all your help!

Re: yellow inside changed shell?
Hi! He was in one of those hardware cloth and wood cages they have at the beach, no substrate.
It has dried by now and seems like it may just be the color of the shell? Have not seen one like this before. What do you think?

Thanks!

Re: crabs home, anything special to do?
THANK YOU! OK, I moved the UTH to a place where it is not just heating the substrate. Also shortened the big wall so there is 6-7 inches of substrate rather than 11-12 inches. Then I put in all the climbing stuff, hiding stuff, food, FW and decorations. Finally added the crabs. At that point, the te...

Re: crabs home, anything special to do?
Crabinski, Soilentgringa....OK, here is a pic of the "bare-bones" set up, before I put in all the substrate and stuff. I kinda drew in where everything is. Should I move the UTH from the back (red) to the side (pink)? Is there a different place you would suggest? http://i.imgur.com/jAoG7Dv.jpg Here ...

Re: crabs home, anything special to do?
Soilentgringa, yikes...I SO do not want to cook these guys! Where do I want to place my UTH? I have it on the back of the tank, it is mostly against the section with 11" of substrate. There is about 3" of heater sticking out above the substrate. Should I move it to where it is just on glass and air?...

yellow inside changed shell?
Hi! Just brought home some hermies from the beach. One of them was obviously too big for his shell. He changed shells last night. The old shell is yellow and kind of oily inside. Is this normal?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Should I Be Scared of My Crabs?
We do take ours out for educational programs. They are held on a flat palm with shell supported with other hand. As far as I know, none of our educators have been pinched. Students are not permitted to handle the hermits. Make sure they feel secure and you should be fine. But, as suggested, I wouldn...

Re: Want to start right! *pics added, finally!*
Do they often completely submerge and stay there for a while? Just after adding them to their temporary travel container, one went into the saltwater bowl and stayed there, after a couple of minutes I nudged him and he climbed out...

Re: Want to start right! *pics added, finally!*
Kermie16, thank you! The dividers are made from a light defuser from fluorescent lighting. The ones that are in are set for this time, but new ones can easily be cut. Nothing is glued or siliconed into place to allow for easy cleaning (if necessary) and renovations as needed. Just got home with my g...

crabs home, anything special to do?
Hi! I work at an education center. We had hermits donated to us a few years ago, used them a lot in our educational programs. As they passed, we found that there were things we could have done to give them a better home. So we are starting again, built a tank and now I am home with the hermits. Got ...
