Re: "205 Gallon" Custom Build
Wow!!! I applaud you for your dedication!! I know how much work this was. I took 55 gallon tank apart, and then after the work I changed my mind on the project. This looks great! The only thing I would worry about with this is the lights cracking your glass. You have some spoiled hermies there!! :)...

Thanks!rainbow_crab wrote:Looks great!
You wouldn't have said that if you had seen me at 4:30 in the morning with a linoleum knife tearing the one tank apart! Lol, thanks!ciaraalston wrote:WOW!!

Re:
Super cool! I like how it all came together, they must love all that space. The small tanks as pools are incredible, they have ponds instead of pools. Lol! Very nice! Thank you! They all seem to just want to hug that cork "tree" for right now, but it's still probably a bit chilly on the far end for...

Re: Phenols and You - How Close is Too Close?
Over time, glass will absorb contaminants in the air, and this will eventually leech through to the inside. I'm a little confused by this statement. Glass is impermeable, it's not capable of absorbing or passing anything. You're right - it's the typical aquarium acrylic and the silicone sealant on ...

Re: Phenols and You - How Close is Too Close?
I was a bit brusque - that wasn't to mean that I won't watch them for signs of sluggishness, lack of appetite, unusual burying, etc. For me, it's more of a chemistry problem. At what concentration do these honestly become a problem? Since naturally hermits can be found in evergreens, it's obviously ...

Re: "205 Gallon" Custom Build
Thanks! I sure will, but it was far less complex than it looks. The bottom is two Aquaeon 75 gallon tanks, which I busted the sides out of with a hammer. I did so in two ways: for the first, I tried to strip the silicone from under and pull it out intact, which I eventually gave up on; when it shatt...

Re: Phenols and You - How Close is Too Close?
Thank you. I still have the "water-housing" mindset where if enough of something gets on the glass it will leech into the water. I'm certain I have an infestation; that is what Terminex and the large swathe of poisons I've used up to this point have been for - but now that I have this new setup, mov...

Phenols and You - How Close is Too Close?
I have an old house, and we have roaches. I can live with the fact they are in my walls (I'm sure there are plenty of things in the walls I don't want to know about), but I have little tolerance for them elsewhere in my house - and have since declared a War of No Attrition against them after infesti...

Re: Changed to a too-small shell
That's what was really getting to me - there were two or three sarmaticus shells just beside that one, including one that would have made her appear Tiny when she's borderline Jumbo. Instead she chose a smaller...forget the species of snail...D-shaped shell!
Crazy crabs.

Re: Changed to a too-small shell
Facebook also told me that sometimes they will take a smaller shell before going down for a molt - this would be her first in a long time if that's the case. Either way I feel much better; it just really got to me when she did what was supposed to be the opposite behavior!
Thank you.
Thank you.

Changed to a too-small shell
Copy and pasting this from a Facebook group I'm also in because this is starting to concern me and I want as many different opinions as I can on it. One more for the night. I just added about a dozen awesome shells thanks to one of our members, so it's a change-fest right now. However, my (now) thir...

Ficus pumila (creeping fig) and other "structure plants" - Q
Howdy again folks! I'm looking to add some vine-age to my tat - after a very positive experience with a topper I will be putting together an amalgamated monster to rival Frankenstein's, and I feel like the cheapest method to add climbing aides, as well as the only way with side benefits, would be to...

MHCs: Scarlet Reef Molt
Picture this shell (look reeeeeeealllly close, you can see the legs) - http://i63.tinypic.com/20tklza.jpg - pressed up against the corner of the tank on top of this fake plant - http://i67.tinypic.com/2jfdn5l.jpg - with this sitting on the middle of the "branches" (it's between the glass beads, you ...

Re: MHCs: Scarlet Reef Shell Change?
Phase one concludes that the shell vacated is completely hollow. I used the 90° bent side of a metal dental pick to prod around, and once I wiggled through the initial curve, the pick rotated freely inside. Phase two begins now, when I identify that snail species the shell grew from, acquire one, fe...
