Interesting Shell Change

We recently bought a bunch of new shells for our two crabbies, and when we added them to the tank, they both changed shells almost immediately. About an hour later, the smaller crab began to inspect/play with another shell (in the exact same way he has done in the past, right before he changes shell...

Short Term Temperature Control

Hello and Happy Near Year! Does anyone have some short term methods to increase a habitat temperature? The tank's temperature has been mostly fine so far this winter, but dipped a little low on a particularly cold day this past week. To clarify, I'm wondering if there is a quick / simple way to keep...

Re: First time owners, worried about 2 month molt

Update: Both crabs are alive and well. So I did dig, just until I found them, and then gently recovered them. The larger crab returned to the surface that evening, and has been eating, drinking, and climbing like a champ since. Looking fresh too! The smaller crab had been returning to the surface ev...

Re: Substrate consistency clarification

Thanks all, that's what I thought but wanted to make sure. Our consistency seems about right, and the crabs seem to be digging and enjoying themselves.

Substrate consistency clarification

Reading over the guides on these forums, the substrate should be kept moist so it's sandcastle consistency. When we setup the tank, we mixed sand and fiber with water, until it was sandcastle-like. My question is how exactly do we maintain this consistency after the substrate is added to the tank? I...

Re: First time owners, worried about 2 month molt

I am sorry that I do not have time to reply to all of the other issues right now, but being that you moved the tank, it is highly possible that their tunnels could have collapsed and they could have suffocated. I would very carefully dig them up and be ready to keep them separated if they have surv...

First time owners, worried about 2 month molt

What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Coconut fiber and sandbox play sand mix, about 5" deep. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Yes. Both are in the corr...
