Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
A less expensive alternative to chillers, depending on your ambient temperature, is to hang fans above the tank. Increased evaporation cools down the temperature. Again, whether this works depends on how hot your apartment gets. Okay thank you! Yeah I’m unsure of how hot my house will get because I...

Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
If we ever did axolotls, because they are on my bucket list and our summers are hot, my plan was to do a little mini-fridge (under $100 new) as a chiller. Drill two holes through the side and run several feet of potable water tubing through it with a cheap aquarium pump to circulate. I had a mini-f...

Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
I know they do sell chillers for aquarium that need to stay below room temperature. If you were to keep them close together, I'd put a barrier that would keep the heat from transferring to the axie's tank (the same way keeping a hermit crab tank next to the window will sap the heat out of it). Okay...

Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
It's easier to cool the room for those that need it and get a good heater for the hermits. I keep my bedroom below 68 at all times for myself and my crested gecko, and have my ruggie hermit tank and tropical fish tank with good heaters to keep them at 80 and 72. Heaters are much cheaper and easier ...

Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
You certainly can keep them in the same room, it just be as wise to insulate the axie tank during summer and habe some frozen waterbottles on hand- or a chiller unit for aqua - to keep their temp at their sweet spot. Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
So I have two healthy crabs (one currently molting and one just over a molt!) in a 20 gallon tank and I’ve been looking into getting some Axolotls eventually. Apparently I really have a thing for pets with regeneration abilities and extreme temperature needs! My question is if anyone has kept hermit...

Re: Morning Mayhem
The photos don't do her colors justice she's bright purple and sooo beautiful. This is Lyle in the same shell haha. Lyle is a lot bigger than her as you can see, he's much darker too he's like a deep red with a dark dark purple claw. Both make me dearly happy! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201709...

Morning Mayhem
My two hermit crabs Lyle and Clem have been making me laugh so hard recently! I finally got the tank temperature at the perfect spot consistently and those two have been so active. Let's start with Clem's adventures. She's usually my timid crab and it's taken about nine months for her to really be c...

Re: What Are Your Crabs' Personalities?
My hermit crab Clementine is so silly! She'll walk right up to the tank wall and watch you watch her but she's also so timid. She has one bright red foot and loved stealing the walnuts away from her brother which makes her like a little bandit [emoji23]. Her brother Lyle on the other hand has no fea...
Re: Mites
I replied with a D- 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Eco earth bricks, six inches at the deepest and four at the lowest. D- you'll want a minimum of 6 inches or 3 times your largest crab throughout the tank. Whichever is greater. 2. Do you have gauges in the tan...
Re: Mites
Are you positive that your crabs have mites? Here is the bug link: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=92537 Link on mites: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=92530 As far as the UTH, I would get one that is the length of the back of your tank from http:/...
