Molting Crab
So my crab Rocky has finally decided it's time to molt. (hopefully his missing leg segment grows back) For a few days hes been digging shallow little areas in the tank so I put him in the ISO tank, but everytime I put him in there he doesn't do anything and then as soon as I put him back in the main...

Hermit Hanging Out of Shell
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Play Sand and Eco Earth mix 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? none for humidity and the temp thermometer is on...

Re: crab molted and is suddenly missing leg
Just provide him with lots of calcium sources (e.g.: eggshells, cuttlebone, oyster shell, coral, sea urchin), protein sources (e.g.: grasshoppers, shrimp, krill, crickets, mealworms, chicken), as well as the other necessary food pyramid items every day of the week. Your crab will regrow the limb in...

crab molted and is suddenly missing leg
So my crab molted a few days ago and all that, it was a surface molt. Before the molt he had all of his limbs but now when I watch him and stuff, he seems to be missing a leg. i have no idea how that happened or if its just hidden or what. He seems to be in a fairly tight shell but will not change o...

Re: Surface Molter
I'm glad that you knew about the iso tank! Great job! It's not necessary to provide him food right now. He needs to eat his exo. Please make sure your iso has heat and humidity, if it doesn't, you can use a critter keeper and place it inside of your crabitat. :) I'm so glad your crabbie is doing go...

Re: Surface Molter
Just leave him in is with his exo until it is mostly gone. Once the exo is gone then you can give him lots of calcium and protein. Honey is good as well. Make sure he has access to fresh and salt water and once he starts moving around a lot and returning to normal behavior give him a quick dip in t...

So I had accidentally dug up my buried crab Jem after he had been under for about 4 weeks. I was really scared and quickly put him in the iso tank just to be safe and dug around to see if there was an exoskeleton. i didn't find any so I carefully checked on him and he hadnt molted in all the time he...

Re: How Long Should I Wait?
My hermit crab Jem went under about three weeks ago. He was a little smaller than an egg. How long will he take to molt at that size? I really want to clean up the entire tank and add more sub but he hasnt come up yet. I would occasionally hear him moving around but no longer hear anything should I...

Re: Crab down beside water countainer
What kind of container do you use for water? If it's a tupperware container, can you double it up with another of the same size? Or else put a smaller container in the one currently in use? That way you wouldn't desturb him or need to ISO, which is stressful to them. Its a really deep square contai...

Crab down beside water countainer
My largest hermit crab, Jem, is a little bit on the larger medium side. He went down about 9 days ago but he went down right next to the water dishes in a smaller area that was just big enough for him. I want to change the salt water but I am afraid of disturbing him as I am quite clumsy. I also am ...
