Re: OR, WA, ID, ND, SD, WY, MT, NE Adopters
I'm in Eastern Idaho and am looking to adopt a couple hermit crabs. I'd be willing to travel 2-3 hours or have them shipped overnight. I currently have a 55 gallon tank with 2 PP Hermit Crabs who I would love to have more friends. If you live in the area and are giving some crabs up for adoption, pl...

Re: CO, UT, NV Adopters
I live in Eastern Idaho and am looking to adopt some hermit crabs in Western Utah. I'd be willing to travel 2-3 hours, so somewhere outside of the Salt Lake Valley. I currently have 2 PP Hermit Crabs in a 55 gallon tank, which I have had for 3 years.

Hemp Twine Safe?
I've been wanting to make netting for my hermit crabs to climb on, but I was wondering if this type of twine is safe

WCIF Netting?
I've been looking around for this netting for a while, but I'm confused what it's called. If you have a link to where I could buy it or the name of the material, I would really appreciate it. This is what I want: https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A86.J3Xrz7FY.D8AJhwnnIlQ?p=hermit+crab+...

Re: Essential Oil Diffuser w/ Hermit Crabs?
What I find really interesting is how essential oils can be harmful... they seem to be mostly generated from chemicals that plants produce due to toxicity to herbivorous insects. Both insects and crabs have to molt to grow - and molts are controlled by hormones. The hormone that controls the molt i...

Okay, thanks for the helpGotButterflies wrote:Yes, it would be harmful. Hermits have modified gills. Fragrances are harmful to them. Essential oils are fragrances.

Essential Oil Diffuser w/ Hermit Crabs?
I know it's harmful to use candles or fragrances around hermit crabs, but would an essential oil diffuser also do the same?

I'll make sure to boil them soon. Thanks for the help!GotButterflies wrote:Have you boiled them since the old crab was in them? I would do that with all of the shells. Once again, I think if you had more of a variety it wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Help Template
1. It's sand castle consistency, and it's 3 times deeper than my big crab. GB: Great! 2. It's an analog.Would getting a heating pad work and could I put it on the side of the tank? I don't think I'd be able to lift it without draining everything. I use the ReptiFogger humidifier for my tank but eve...

Re: Are They Trying to Hurt Him?
Did they recently change shells and you take them out? Or is the smaller one using the other's old shell? No worries on the sexes, I don't know mine either. The smaller one is trying to move into 2 of the crab's old shells. I was wondering if I took the small crab out and had him change shells outs...

Re: Are They Trying to Hurt Him?
I posted a reply to your link :) Hermits do have a hierarchy, but I would try spreading your shells around your tank. Do you know the sexes of your crabbies? No, I'm kind of too scared to hold them to find out. I'll try spreading the shells around my tank and getting a better variety. Do hermit cra...
