Re: Insulation
That's exactly how I have mine and it works well. The only difference is that I have a glass top. I wonder if that could be your problem.... Is your whole top covered with press n seal with no gaps? Edit: or ambient room temp?? My house is 72 winter and 76 summer. And the tank itself is against an ...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
They have been doing this for 3 hours! Just doing laps around the perimeter of the lid. Giraffe has stayed directly behind Caterpillar the entire time. Caterpillar has attempted to cut through the middle a few times, or slow down or stop entirely, and when he does, Giraffe moves in closer and then n...

Re: Insulation
I have this one from reptilebasics. It's on the back of the tank. The flat side of the cord is against the glass so the copper strip is facing out. I taped the foil to the glass and then the cardboard around it. I didn't do another layer of foil on the outside of the cardboard. Could that be it? And...

Insulation
How, exactly, do you insulate your tank? I read that you can use tinfoil and cardboard over the UTH but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, or I misunderstood or something, but now I can't get my heat up past the mid -70s, and it drops to low 70s at night. My guys used ...

Re: Hurricane
What I find most interesting is that the crabs split up by species. My pps are against the mopani and my es are inside the cork log. Sent from my SM-J700T1 using Tapatalk Mine pretty much always stick together. I think if my PP's could find a double shell they'd be in it together. Like a crab duple...

Re: Hurricane
So you guys know that Texas is being affected by a hurricane. Best of luck to every body in the path. My crabs have been acting completely different though. They are normally all over the tank but today and yesterday they have been hunkering down under and against a piece of mopani I have in the ta...

Re: Mass Surfacing During Thunderstorm?
Mine all climb as high as they can when a big storm is on the way. My PP's rarely leave the ground, so if they're hanging out in the vines (or anywhere besides the sand) I know something is coming. My E's love to climb all over the place, but if there's rain on the way, they'll all be hanging upside...

What if they were planning on eating that later, but now you've ruined their plans to party? No tripping for the crabbies tonight

Re: What are they???
Keep us updated! I'd like to know if and what yours change in to! I have 5 E's. They've all molted at one time or other since I've had them, and even after 5 successful molts and over 50 shell choices of varying sizes and types, not one has given up it's painted shell. My most active even has a big ...

Re: The littlest baby made it!
Took him (or her, I don't know. Hasn't let me look lol) 5 weeks! He went down 2 days after I got him and just now came up. His shell looked almost too big for him when I got him. It completely swallowed him! I thought it was an empty shell when I first picked it up. Turned it over and saw the tinies...

Re: Weather bugs
A few things. So, last year when the hurricane came through practically every crab I had was on the branches way above ground. Other crabbers in hurricane Matthew's path experienced the same thing. Yes, they do feel the pressure. Pretty cool huh? Secondly, I have used fish net all of my crabbing ye...

Re: Weather bugs
Kind of hard to see in this picture, but had to share. This is just so fascinating to me! It's currently POURING down rain outside, and these 4 are literally climbing over each other to try and get to the highest spot! (Only one of them was smart enough to go another way to get ABOVE the net to be o...

Re: Molter killing other molters
I'm terrified that this is exactly what is happening in my tank. My 2 smallest (little bitty things) went down within a few days of getting them (one after 2 days, the other 4 or 5) and then my normally chill small-ish crab (Cowboy) began frantically digging and even getting aggressive toward the bi...
