Re: Correct temperatures??? (Maybe emergency?)

Do different species have a wide range of different temperatures? If they do I will try again to identify my crabs species, but I am not sure how correct it will be. Will it be okay to move the lamp closer to the tank to get the heat up a couple degrees? My friend is trying to tell me crabs sometime...

Correct temperatures??? (Maybe emergency?)

I do not know what temperature my crabs need to be and I am afraid they may be overheating or something!!! When I first started I heard it needed to be 80-85, 79 at the absolute lowest, but now I'm finding things that say they need to be 75-80 and never above 80. I have a 29 gal tank and use 3 heat ...

What To Do With a Bully?

Hi all, A few weeks ago Hammy, my medium-ish crab was picking on Henry, another crab roughly the same size. When I say "picking" Hammy was really close to him, really far out of his shell while Henry was curled up really far inside his. I thought it was just a little territorial "this is my spot" fi...

Re: Dug up a Molter -- He seems fine?

Hi all, He successfully molted! He's been out and about for a couple weeks now. I haven't seen him bury since the molt, but I don't think it's anything to be worried about (?) because he otherwise seems perfectly fine. He's been checking out the other shells but hasn't changed yet. When should I tak...

Re: Dug up a Molter -- He seems fine?

Yes, he does have a shell on. As for the others, they wear different size shells so I'll go ahead and give him all the bigger ones. I'm still scared to take out the divider since they were fighting (the bully is off in a different tank entirely, but still) so I'm going to hold off on that a day or t...

Dug up a Molter -- He seems fine?

Hi all. Three days ago I attempted to change my crabs substrate (it was VERY wet and mud-looking, I was afraid the crabs would get trapped) but accidentally dug up a molter in the process. I didn't know he was molting, I had seen him only a day before out and about, but he was completely snow white ...

Re: Bullying Crab

Ah, okay. I've just heard stories of crabs becoming territorial and killing the other crabs and I wanted to prevent that best I could. I have around 15 shells in the big tank right now, with a few extras I keep out so I can switch them every few weeks.

Bullying Crab

Since I've had them my crabs have usually been okay to each other. Sometimes they hang around each other, but usually kept to themselves for the most part. I was surprised when a week+ ago they started sleeping together next to the heat pad (before it was in a part of the tank they didn't hang aroun...

Re: Substrate Not Holding Together?

Yes, I heard that! It took awhile to find some play sand (most of the stores had this weird Crayola colored play sand, which I was afraid to use) but I finally found some and planned on using it tonight, but apparently nobody took it out of the truck and it's now at my brother's house. I... honestly...

Substrate Not Holding Together?

I recently bought some Zoo Med Eco Earth Loose Coconut Fiber Substrate (not the bricks) (link can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Coconut-Substrate-Quarts/dp/B00167VVP4 ) and put it in my tank 30 minutes ago. It was still moist in the bag and when I poured it in the tank it didn't seem...

Re: Found Crab Dead; Others Acting Weird

"Unlike the calcium carbonate "sand" often sold as hermit crab substrate, this premium blend of natural sand, coconut fiber, calcium carbonate, sea salt mix and probiotics is the superior choice for healthy land hermit crabs. The silica sand packs well and the coconut fiber helps with water retentio...

Re: Found Crab Dead; Others Acting Weird

I'm afraid I don't have the money OR room to buy a 25 galleon tank. If I add more hidey-holes in their tank would it be okay, or will I need to adopt them out? I feel so bad I honestly do not care if I need to give them away, as long as they don't go back to that store. I bought the same substrate p...

Re: Found Crab Dead; Others Acting Weird

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? T-Rex Crab Island Jungle Bed, they’ve piled it up in some areas since we’ve changed it so in places it’s only half an inch while others are a little bit over an inch-and-a-half. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperatur...

Found Crab Dead; Others Acting Weird

I bought three hermit crabs on February 27th, then three more a couple days later. I do not know how big they are, only that there are two very small ones (small enough to stand on a quarter), two big ones (just too big to stand on a quarter; also the biggest ones PetCo had), with two inbetween. One...
