Re: Gearing up for new 29G
I love the teal color!! It’s my fave and I’ve painted my night stands in something similar. This is my stand (29g as well). I bought it off Craigslist and painted/ distressed it. It was this ugly cream color with brown knobs and top. Now looking at this picture I’m wondering how the little legs have...

Re: HELP. Streaking hermit crab?? Put some clothes on
Came home today and my entire room smelt. He was sitting on top of the shells completely dried out. Very sad right now. I had 6 crabs starting out and now I have 3.

HELP. Streaking hermit crab?? Put some clothes on
24 hours later... I came home to him sitting on top of the shells and when I took the tank lid off he started moving a lot and I got these pictures. I’m about to feed him some honey on a q tip. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180417/ac9cd3ed0b01bfcddfb9da116260e7b6.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cd...

HELP. Streaking hermit crab?? Put some clothes on
Grab some popcorn or something and get comfortable, this is going to be a lengthy post. 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? I use a mixture of EE and play sand (its like 5 bricks of EE and 50 lbs of sand) its about 8 inches deep all over with one corner being 10 inche...

Re: Updating my Crabitat
Hi! I have 3 pp's in a 20 gal tank. I was doing some research and I realized I do not have enough sand in my tank. I want to update the tank to make it more comfortable for my crabbies. Also my tank is stinky. I am positive that it is buried food as it smells like bad fruits and all my crabbies are...

I love the look of this tank! Where’d you get it? My crabs like spider wood from aquarium shops

Re: Crabitat Help
Just remember that painted shells are a big no no. The forum recommends 5 shell option available but more is always better. Also make sure your substrate is deep enough for your crabs to molt safely.

Re: Humidity and Temperature Gauge Residue?
I was going to suggest a razor blade. It usually gets anything off glass. I know rubbing alcohol gets sticky off most things but I’d be afraid it could be harmful

Re: Crabitat Help
This is a picture of my tank before all the fake plants were added. I only have 4 hermit crabs from small to medium size. It has two 5”x3”x3” water bowls one for salt and one for freshwater. They also have a basket of shells with plenty to choose from. I have two UTH on the back of the tank in order...

Re: Size question
Maybe you could get a 29 gallon. It’s the same size as a 20 but taller. I have four in mine and they all have lots of space. I think 2 in a 20 would last a long time. Maybe even long enough that you could move out and then get what tank you want.

Re: DIY Decor on a budget?
That’s true. I saw a post on here talking about how all of the sub gets dug in/ made tunnels with. Yet the opens surface can only be used with things to climb on so the sub is the most important part. My crabs range from small to medium so I have about 10” of sub and that leaves me with 8” of space ...

Re: DIY Decor on a budget?
I have a 29 gallon (which is the same thing as a 20 High, same foot print as a 20 but taller) I don’t really have room for a second level because most of the tank is sub. I do however have an elevated moss pit on one side and a shell shop on the other. For those I simple used shower caddies with suc...

Re: Dry top layer?
Back when I had a 10 gallon I had a grate type lid that didn’t keep humidity in and I used a heat lamp and my sub was always dry on top. Since I’ve updated I’ve had no issues but I also keep my humidity closer to 90% than 80%. I really wouldn’t recommend a heat lamp because they can dry up your humi...
