Re: Both Crabs Upside-Down
They're such weird little things, aren't they? I love them. I'm happy to report that when I checked on them this morning, Guido was sleeping happily in his hut, and Bob Jr. had found himself a nice new shell. He had been in a green turbo, (I think; it was covered in brown crud) and ha...

Re: Both Crabs Upside-Down
Good point. I generally don't handle my crabs, though. In this instance, I did because I realized that while I had dunked the newbie so my other crab wouldn't smell him as 'alien,' I wondered if I should have dunked both. It retrospect, that probably didn't matter. I'm still learning. :) (This is th...

Re: Both Crabs Upside-Down
One of the posts I read said to dip them in the saltwater bowl, which is why I tried that. Any reason the freshwater would be different/better?
I didn't do an emergency template, because I didn't think this was an emergency, just something I thought was curious.
(Edited: because words.)

Re: Both Crabs Upside-Down
So, after checking on them again, I found them both back in the hut, with Bob Jr. clearly trying to get at Guido, and Guido, well, not having it. I took them out of the hut, and then this time I dunked them both in the saltwater bath. When I checked a couple minutes later, things seemed relatively p...

Both Crabs Upside-Down
Hi everyone, We brought a new crab home tonight, after sadly losing Bob to a humidifier problem over Christmas break. Bob Jr. is a fair bit larger than the original Bob (and also a fair bit larger than his buddy, Guido). I dunked Bob Jr. in the saltwater dish and placed him in the tank. Guido was sl...

Re: Shell shop sleeper
One of my crabs, Bob, always sleeps up in the 2nd level shell shop, as well. The other, Guido, always sleeps on the sub, behind a climbing net. For a while, I was worried Bob had gotten stuck up there because I never saw him down on the sub, but nope--he just likes it up there. Weirdos.

Re: Sleeping Shell in Shell
Just when I thought he really might be stuck, out he came, and started scaling the tiki hut again.
(I really have no clue how he's doing that; there's nothing that I can see for him to hold on to.)

Re: Sleeping Shell in Shell
I'm so glad it's not just mine. I'm also worried he's going to get stuck; it seems like a tight fit. He's also usually up and about by now, but he's still in there.

Re: Sleeping Shell in Shell
It's become a game between my husband and I: where are the crabs now? He, who was so against them in the first place, checks them out every time he walks past their tank.

Sleeping Shell in Shell
So, once my guys discovered their second floor shell shop, they've been sleeping up there almost exclusively. What's striking me as odd/funny is that both of them, on different nights, have slept with their shells facing inside a larger shell in the shop. So...they're in a shell, half-inside another...

Re: Pole sitting crab
One of my crabs, Guido Adler, did something similar a couple of days ago. He was scaling the Tiki Hut. I still have no clue how he got up as far as he did! An hour or so later, his tank mate Bob was walking across the top of the climbing net. Little weirdos.

Pet sand...love it!
Bob came up about a day or so after I posted, and so I did a dance a little something like this:
I'm hoping Guido will be up soon, but I'll practice patience.

Re: First Successful Molt! (I think)
Ooh, I'll have to check for that. He's still a bit shy, but he's checking out one of the hemp climbing nets I put in while he was down. Not sure if he's munching or debating a climb, but when I can get a good look at his eyes, I'll look for lashes. Thanks for letting me know!
