Telling Individuals Apart
So, I'm new to this whole hermit crab thing, and I was wondering how the heck I'm supposed to tell my hermit crabs apart. I mean, I can tell my budgies apart in the dark by just looking at their silhouettes, but how do you tell crabs apart? I currently have three hermit crabs, and I'm going to be ad...

Re: How do you keep your tank humid?
Thank you for all the ideas! The moss balls sound so cute - I wonder if they are safe for hermies. Yeah, moss balls (aka "Marimo") are just the cutest! They're actually a rare morph of a species of filamentous algae. Like I said, they're REALLY popular with shrimp, so hermit crabs should love them ...

Transporting By Motorcycle
Okay, so my dad's going to be picking up a trio of hermit crabs that need a new home. He's planning on picking them up with his motorcycle. I know, but wait a second. I would never let him transport fish, mammals, or birds that way. However, his motorcycle is one of the quietest motorcycles I've eve...

Re: How do you keep your tank humid?
Well, I'm glad you guys can keep your tanks warm enough, since my UTHs are doing zilch. Hah, I'm going to have to buy a different brand -_-. For humidity, why not see about getting one of those terrarium foggers? I had one for my pitcher plant, but the stupid fogger broke. It was great for humidity,...

Re: New; Adopted a Pair of Purple Pinchers
Well, I just gave them some scrambled eggs with eggshell, salmon oil, chia, oats, red clover, sprouted wheat flour, powdered grain grass, and a splash of Instant Ocean water. I also threw in some bee pollen, chickweed, nasturtium flower, Swiss chard, dandelion leaf, kohlrabi, and broccoli leaf. Ther...

Re: New; Adopted a Pair of Purple Pinchers
I think I read most of that care sheet, but I'll read the rest now. I was wondering about some of those ingredients, and cross referenced a lot of the ingredients. I've eaten those pellets before, and you can't taste the herbs at all. From what I've read, those herbs and spices aren't necessarily to...

Re: What To Do With a Bully?
I've only had my hermit crabs for three-ish days, so I don't have much experience when it comes to hermit crabs. However, I've read that most bullying can be solved by bathing the victim (in salt water) so (s)he has a "neutral" smell. Apparently, it stops the bullying most of the time. From my exper...

Re: Bonsai okay for crabs?
Yep, you have a ficus as others have said. While ficus are listed as "safe" for birds, their leaves contain a caustic sap that can burn tissue.

New; Adopted a Pair of Purple Pinchers
I just adopted a pair of hermit crabs on Monday. Their old family had them for a year and a half, but their young daughter quit looking after them. They were kept in a 10 gallon aquarium, they had freshwater and salt water, a heater, coconut fibre substrate, and were fed fruits, veggies, and Fluker'...
