Re: Can a crab molt in two and a half days?
UPDATE: So my buddies were just messing with me; turns out, RAZOR changed to a shell exactly like shellbys! Also, there is a hole that tells me that Shellby dug himself out of his hole, but nowhere can I find Shellby, and it doesn't look like Shellby buried himself anywhere else. Bad?

Can a crab molt in two and a half days?
I know that the answer is probably no... But, Shellby buried himself underground two and a half days ago... He'd been pretty lethargic for a few days beforehand, and he was eating a lot, and I was not shocked when he went down and "molted..." But, Shellby just dug himself up and is now having fun! H...

Is it a no-no to pick up a destressing crab?
I have deducted that Razor is NOT molting, he is just destressing... I isolated him, believing that he was molting, but I would like to move him back to the main tank... Should I wait to pick him up until he is finished destressing?

Can someone describe the "molting" smell?
I've not seen any descriptions except "iodine;" I'm not sure what iodine smells like, though. What should a molting crab smell like??

Re: Is he molting?!
How are you moistening the moss? Are you misting it? I'm only asking because I don't want you to flood your tank. I do mist it to moisten it, but it's in a container that's not touching the sand, so no need to worry about flooding the sand! Also, he/she hasn't left the moss. How long do they take t...

Is he molting?!
I woke up this morning to my new baby (just got him/her yesterday evening) completely buried in the moss pit?! I figured he/she (Razor) was molting in the sand, so when I was digging through my moss and moistening it, i was unaware that he was in there, and i totally bumped him. I immediately covere...

Signs of a Healthy Hermit Crab?
I've been looking all over for a post concerning GOOD things to see your Hermie do... Play, eat, anything. What are some things that a hermie can do that immediately tell you that you're doing something right?

My Crab Purchase Story
"I will not buy from a store. I will not support the way that those places treat these pets. I will not give in." I said this to myself... too many times. I completely stand with what I said above, however, today, the worst happened. I ended up at Uncle Bill's (a pet store chain in my area), and dec...

Falsely sexed!
Ever since I got Shellby, my hermit crab, I have believed she was a female, because of this website: http://animals.mom.me/determine-male-pet-hermit-crab-female-9071.html , as well as the store I purchased "her" from. Today, I decided to, for fun, look to see if she really was a she, and..... THE GO...

I actually thought of that right before you answered! I will buy instant ocean tomorrow. Thank you!wodesorel wrote:Good as a supplement, trash when used for their water. Instant Ocean is the recommended brand, and it's usually cheaper than that at a local pet store. The small boxes are around $8.

^ Will that harm my crabs?? Purple Pincher... I need to order new salt and I'm curious as to whether or not to use this type of salt.

Re: She's acting oddly?
Ah, the lamp will help - though they can lower humidity as well. Yeah, idk when it's coming, but it will, and so will moss. Sponges in pools aren't considered necessary... they mostly just harbour bacteria. I know they're not super necessary, but as I wait for my moss, it's the best I have. Moss is...

How do I tell if my crab is surface molting?
Shellby hasn't moved in days, and I'm actually super worried. She isn't dead (no smell). She is completely inside of her shell. She is partially on the sand and partially on top of her hide out).
