Re: Pool noodles and false bottoms
Thanks for that! The Facebook group I'm on highly recommends them, so I've been trying to get one done correctly. Already spent a good bit of money on it, unfortunately (the egg crate thing was $15). It seems like people who recommend them feel strongly about it, and people who recommend against the...

Pool noodles and false bottoms
Hi, I have a new (to me) 72 gallon tank that I'm trying to get set up. I understand that with a larger tank like that, a false bottom is recommended to avoid floods. So I did all the steps to make my false bottom...put the little risers (made of notched PVC pieces), cut the hard plastic egg crate st...

Re: Chia seeds
Thanks everyone! The seeds are planted, so we'll see how they do. I also sprinkled a few into the tank just loose, so they can eat them if they want.

Chia seeds
Hi all, Someone mentioned planting chia seeds so their crabs would have sprouts to eat. I ordered some organic seeds and I have a shallow pottery tray to put them in, but my question is, what kind of soil do you use? I don't want to use potting soil because it probably has chemicals and fertilizers ...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing
Looking at these menus ... are your crabs big eaters? Or do you just put tiny amounts in the tank? I have two crabs and they hardly eat anything. Their favorite things are boiled egg, sliced almonds and cuttlebone. They LOVE the cuttlebone. I've tried them on strawberries and grapes -- they won't ea...

Re: What do your crabs enjoy?
It seems that the crabbies can be quite the individuals with individual tastes and preferences. I think mine really like oats and raisins and bananas. I'm going to go get a whole coconut to try. I've been feeding a lot of fish protein but it seems widely untouched so I'm going to try a red meat. Wo...

Re: What do your crabs enjoy?
So you let the leaves get all dried out before putting them in? My Duck really likes coconut flour. MI Mi used to love snake skin, and she would hide and eat it. I gave them ground oyster shells, for the first time yesterday and they ate it all. I have found also, that my bunch will eat much more if...

What do your crabs enjoy?
I have tried a good many different foods, and the only thing I've ever witnessed my crabs eating are chopped raw almonds (no salt, etc.) So of course I usually keep some almond slices in the tank. But nothing else I've tried has seemed very popular. I've given them strawberries (including the green ...

Question about molting
Okay, so I'm relatively new to the hermit crab world (about six months). I've never had a molter. In fact, I've never had a shell changer until last week, and then I had two change in one day! But that's kind of my question. We bought a new little PP, because we saw him at the pet store and he was i...

Re: Our first shell change!
And now, one of our other guys we've had for several months decided to change shells too! It's like he needed instructions or something, lol. We've been waiting so long for one shell change, and we get two in one day!

Our first shell change!
Hi, My 10-year-old son and I are still relative newbies to hermit crabs. We've had ours for maybe six months. Our two have been tunneling for a while, so we haven't seen them very much. And we've never had one of them switch shells, though we keep a variety of shells in the tank. So we decided to ru...

Re: Question about moss
Thanks! Mine is definitely free of any pesticides and fertilizers. It's truly just from the woods. I may try a little bit. It's very green and very pretty. Maybe they'll like it. Unfortunately, my three guys seem to be pretty picky eaters, so I'm trying different things.
