Re: Few questions
Thanks for the replies. I'm sure he was dead as he actually died in the saltwater and had started to go bad because of it :/ . I could use a turkey baster I'm just concerned about filling the water back up when there is already substrate in the dish since I read this would raise ammonia levels very ...

Few questions
Hey guys! Haven't posted in a while, but a few things have happened recently that I wanted to ask about. First and foremost the first hermit crab I ever got passed away yesterday unfortunately after a few months of having him, he had never molted like my other crabs and I thought his recent behaviou...

Air plants
Anybody got any clue how a well established air plant on something like cork bark would do?

Hermit crab not moving but won't come out of shell?
Hmmm, sounds like he's molting and what you're seeing is his exoskeleton...could be wrong though...just don't disturb him, and only do minimal check ins to change food water etc.
If he is molting, that's good news

Re: Completely New to Hermit Crabs
Sounds good! Yes you actually NEED to be using your dechlorinator with instant ocean as the instant ocean doesn't get rid of chlorines and chloramines, and just adds salt so good job! 2 more small friends should be just fine if you've got your humidity and temperature about correct. When I was tryin...

I'm in Australia and had the same problem as you! I use Red Sea now, works pretty well as far as I can tell

Re: Molting caves
As far as I know when they INITIALLY molt they're actually very slightly smaller then they were, and as the exoskeleton hardens it'll slowly grow.

Re: Completely New to Hermit Crabs
Hello. I apologize ahead of time for the long post, but I'm very new to learning about hermit crabs. This forum has been a wonderful resource. About a week ago, I began pet sitting for a hermit crab. It was purchased as a pet for kids and the crabs who were with it had already died. This crab had b...

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I think I'm about to watch Lunie do some shell shopping but I don't know for sure. He's like, marching in place right now, facing a green turbo that he occasionally sticks all his feelers in. By the time I come home from work tonight he might very easily be in a new shell! If he's sticking his pinc...

Re: Oh WOW

Re: Hermit crab not moving but won't come out of shell?
Yeah he smells a little like fish but I don't want to call him dead yet. :( Good news is all of my other hermits have all four legs and two pinchers and are very active. Two have changed their shells into the new ones I put in last night. I put the one who looks to be dead in a separate container w...

Re: Hermit crab not moving but won't come out of shell?
Hey, so I have a hermit crab who lost two legs and is not moving at all. He won't fall out of his shell though but I can move is limbs without him pulling back. I have him in a little container with some eco earth in case he was molting but will he be okay or is he dead? :( If the two legs that he ...
