Re: Emergency move
Did you use a water bottle or a 2 litre bottle? You'll want it big enough where he can move around in... Does it go down to bottom of tank so that the other can't tunnel to him? Did you remove the top for air flow? Sent from my HTC6515LVW using Tapatalk I did none of those *sweats* I was so panicke...

Re: Emergency move
Try to wait it out. It's possible that they weren't molting yet. Give it some time. It is always better not to dig. What if you uncover one that is in the process of molting? Just let them do their thing. Sent from my SM-J700T1 using Tapatalk I read this one too late and I've dug around them, not p...

Emergency move
So a hurricane is about to hit my island so I had to quickly move out with my tank and they were under, now that I'm home, should I dig them out or the sand above them or should I wait patiently? Thetunnels must have collapsed
If you can, a quick reply would be appreciated

Re: Molting signs on just digging for fun?
Most of the time new crabs do dig down to destress, not exactly moult. Regardless, as long as conditions are on point they will surface when ready. That might be it, Hermie just resurfaced and he was more active than ever, he even moved faster. Kraff on the other hand has shown no signs of resurfac...

Re: Molting signs on just digging for fun?
So the sun has gone down a few hours ago, when they usually get active, and they haven't come out and there's no seafood or fishy smell so I guess this confirms its a molt!
I believe in them, they can do it! I'll keep conditions optimal for them!

Re: Molting signs on just digging for fun?
It's normal... and only your crabs know what they will do next, lol. Don't fill their holes, they'll take care of that themselves. (Or not... sometimes they just leave 'em, but its fine.) So I'm going to guess it is a molt cause they both dug down into the sand and closed themselves up  This...

Molting signs on just digging for fun?
Hello! So I recently adopted two small hermit crabs, both purple pincers. They've been with me 3 days now and they have been just fine, they sleep all day and eat and explore by night, but recently both have started digging. First Hermie slept all day long dug down on the sand so i assumed he might ...

Re: Temperature and Humidity
Here's a link to the HCA care sheets, in case you haven't read them yet. http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=51 Have a look and see if you have questions, we'll be happy to help! You mentioned that you have a cage for them, which if you're tropical with no A/C, this should be fin...

Re: Temperature and Humidity
Welcome to the crab world! :) If you use the AC (or your roommate uses the AC), you'll definitely need back up heat and humidity because the AC will keep it too low for them. I don't know what others will suggest, but you have to monitor the actual temp and humidity inside the tank and just be read...

Re: Temperature and Humidity
Welcome to HCA!!! One last thing to consider - do you live on this tropical island all the time? If you'll be flying home at any point, you'll need to check airline restrictions for shipping crabs or carry-on as live pets. If they go in the cargo compartment (where airlines often put cats/dogs, etc...

Re: Temperature and Humidity
I'll be in a private room with no AC and no roomate, also I already asked te landlord ao i'm waiting before buying any hermit crabs. I already own a cage large enough for 3-4 hermit crabs (3 is my plan). I also won't be moving the cage till the end of the semester, hopefully they're not molting then...

Temperature and Humidity
So I'm thinking about getting some hermit crabs to keep me company at my dorm since larger animals aren't allowed. I've read just about everything about how to care for them etc. but I have a single question about the temperature and humidity. Hermit crabs are tropical animals and I literally live o...
