Dry and frozen foods and recipes and DIY crabitat stuff

My daughter recieved a hermit crab a few years ago. We've learned a lot. Here is the latest on what I've learned, mostly from HCA. In picture form. We have 3 crabs so all feeding is based on what they eat. Food is checked daily but mostly it's refreshed every other day. It needed to be simple and or...

Re: DIY ramp revival: fixed and removable?

Was the ramp fixed at the top lip and on to the bottom? Was it attached to the lid and the lid had a large hole cut into it? I read the thread, the concerns about fumes for people and ventilation, and she did mention she changed to zip ties. However sometimes if I can see an picture my brain expands...

DIY ramp revival: fixed and removable?

In 2012 Rocky mentioned using a lighter and mesh to fuse on a water ramp. In the dialog it was mentioned that the ramp was removable for easy cleaning. http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=85117 The picture link is broken and I can't seem to visualize how the ramp can be fused...

Re: Adding sand to an exsisting tank

Baba dug down and because she is wearing a large shell the displaced substrate created a mountain over her. I only sprinkled a little over her. The rest of the tank I added about 3/4 inch ( 30 cups of sand + 8 cups expanded ecofiber). I think I know where Bearnadette has hidden herself as well but s...

Re: Adding sand to an exsisting tank

Thank you. I've seen other posts saying substrate can be added. I'm just nervous about adding on top of a molting den because it might get too heavy and then den roof collapsing. I won't move other things in the crabitat, just as others have warned. feeling good about being able to make a b...

Re: Adding sand to an exsisting tank

So sprinkling 1/2 - 1" of substrate over the whole tank over molting hermies each day for 6 days would be ok? I have been waiting for Bearnie to come up for 2 months and just as he comes up Baba and Bearnadette went under. Baba is a big girl and she's in a shell that is way too big for her (but she'...

HCA aided Adoption: Success!!

Last weekend a person in my city pmed me. She had a hermie that needed a new home. :cheer: I brought her home. My DD was not interested in getting another hermie because we lost Oona after streaking and she is tired of feeding and watering "pet-sand". However she is really enjoying having Ber...
