Re: Shell-jacked hermit crab without a shell
I do have some shells that at similar, but smaller i think. I didn't even realize all the shells i have vary in size so much... either too big or too small... at this point i can hear him moving around a lot in the container in the shell that's too small. It's been about an hour of him being in the ...

Re: Shell-jacked hermit crab without a shell
Update: I moved him into an iso tank with a bunch of shells. He moved out of the shell that was way too big and now is in one... way too small. Should I just leave him in there? Or could I move him back to the original tank now?

Re: Large worms found in freshwater bowl!
Wow this is a very old post of mine. Sorry if this is against the rules or anything, but I wanted to try to add the photos again. This is a direct link to the photos. https://www.flickr.com/photos/158378478@N08/48529304616/in/dateposted-public/ The person mentioned Arundinula washingtoniensis, and h...

Re: Shell-jacked hermit crab without a shell
I did read that care sheet, thanks. When I checked on the naked crab again, he was in the tub with all the shells, with one much to large for him. Maybe even too heavy? I saw his legs kind of sticking out but it looked like he was struggling to move it. Should i still put him in a separate tank surr...

Re: Large worms found in freshwater bowl!
Not that i can think of! All decor had been washed in very hot water, all food is either human grade fresh or freeze dried, but the sand was play sand from home depot, and the soil is eco earth. I guess there could have been eggs in the play sand? That's all i can think of. The tank is over a year o...

Large worms found in freshwater bowl!
Went to check on the crabs yesterday and saw large worms in the dish!!!! Right now i see 2/3 hermit crabs up over the past few days so I'm pretty worried about what they are. The larger worm is probably 1mm thick and the smaller one is probably half of that. The length is probably 5 or so cm long. M...

Re: Base Diet Suggestions!
Hermit crabs are similar to us and how we need a balance of the right items in order to stay healthy. It sounds like you are off to a pretty good start already. You can probably just expand on your current food items and be sure they get a mixed variety of each. There are also a guide to nutrition ...

Base Diet Suggestions!
Hi everyone! It's been a while. I've decided that I need to switch up my crab's diets. Currently they are mostly on: dried mealworms, dried shrimp, dried crickets, dried bok choy, carrots, zucchini, green beans, peas, apples, bananas, strawberries, peaches, pears, mangos, blueberries, and honey as a...

Re: Beginner paludarium crabitat
Hi there! I know that people here usually don't suggest built in pools due to potential flooding. They break pretty easily, unfortunately. I think it's the salt mixture that wears away the silicone easily or something? For the top, I would suggest a solid top! If you're looking to add a uva/uvb, the...

Re: HCA Member Card.
Lmao I'd love to have cards to give to people when I sell them at work. Corporate would have a field day :hlol: As for approaching workers about hermit crab care: be kind. Some of us know what is right and what isn't for them. Others don't know. A few don't care at all. No matter, people don't liste...

Re: What to do first - fix mites or let molt?
Sorry about the confusion! I don't have him yet. I was just pondering what I should do for him when I do get him. Is there an easy way to check for stuck on mites? My vision isn't the best lol!

What to do first - fix mites or let molt?
Hi again everyone! The little crab at the store is still there and I love him with all of my heart. Missing his largest claw and one or two leg segments, but is still the most active crab there! Now for the bad part: he may have mites? I have only seen small white bugs on the inside of his shell two...

Re: Heat mat dilemma
When I used packing and duct tape the glue just melted. I bought that shiny silver tape for insulation and made sure it said it held up in temps over 100.

Re: Heat mat dilemma
I was also having troubles keeping heat in. At first I used a piece of cardboard and tinfoil in two layers, and when I got my new one I just went to Home Depot and got some insulation.
