Re: Breeding and Adopting Out
This design is more or less what I did that worked so well for me. I did it the first year in a 20 gallon breeder, with two water bottles side-by-side, then the next year made one in a ten-gallon tank to try and find ways to simplify the process for others. Three things I would suggest/caution you ...

Re: Teeny shells
Done, done, and I bought a magnifying glass for the visually impaired (myself). Also, I have been gathering the materials for a diy kreisal. This seems like the most difficult part of preparation.

Re: Teeny shells
And oh my dear, picking through these is going to be fun but I have a friend that loves this kind of thing and has hawk's eyes so hopefully that will help.

Re: Teeny shells
Thank you!! Yes I have found some shells for when they're a couple months onto land, but I hadn't been able to find those really ridiculously tiny shells. The whelk shells look perfect!
I'll keep everyone updated if we have any luck this year.

Teeny shells
So I apologize if this has already been addressed in a thread, I'm having trouble finding the answer. I'm noticing a lot of guarding behaviors already and I got eggs twice last year. Although I don't think I'm at all ready right now, I'd like to start collecting what I can. I have Coenobita clypeatu...

Re: Why Won't They Molt
Agreed. Only thing I would do differently is not let it fall under 70° Fahrenheit. Many of the places the crabs are native it is between 72-89° ( this is not at all an exact quote I just remember years ago when I got mine I did a lot of research on their native habitats) all throughout the year. I w...

Re: ISO tank humidity and heat?
Under the tank heater, placed on the side of the tank above the substrate! Plexiglass or saran wrap on top holds in heat and humidity. Depening on the size of your tank, and how much it needs heated, I would recommend an Ultratherm, or Flukers, heating pad from reptilebasics.com or beanfarm.com. I b...

Re: Water
What dechlorinator are you using? Seachem Prime, which is what it recommended by many here, is two drops per gallon. And you put the lid back on and shake it up really well. At least, that is what I do.

@Wode.. I am sorry. Poor baby. They deserve so much better, but you were probably one of the best people she could have gone to. Thank you for being so caring.

Re: Crab eating plastic!
Oh no, I had it happen once three years ago and removed all of the plastic immediately, and just a few months ago I put in some plastic plants, all hard plastic so it would be harder for them to eat. I have not had an problems this time, yet. Do they get leaf litter? And yes, that little corner of y...

Re: Crab eating plastic!
May be that the safest thing to do is remove the plant. Crabs are weird so I can't say I know why he is doing it, but I have had the same things happen and my crabs diet definitely meets the nutritional requirements lol.
