Back for more advice
Hello! :D You may remember me from a few months ago asking about halloween moon crabs and the care required for them. I had just purchased one and after 7 months I am happy to say, Avicii is still alive and well (my crab, not the musician unfortunately). I enjoy taking care of him, strenuous work to...

Re: He molted! :D
Another thing I noticed, unfortunately during his molt he must have torn once of his small legs off, I've heard they can grow them back so hopefully that won't be a problem. He also doesn't seem to like being held right now because he squirmed very hard when I tried to pick him up to go to the eggsh...

He molted! :D
So I was asking questions about my halloween crab 2 weeks ago and last night as I was sleeping he decided to shed his first molt. I've heard that a high calcium diet should be supplied during molts in order to regrow their shell. I put some eggshells in there if he ever feels the need to stock up on...

Re: Halloween Crab care and trust issues
It is indeed a gecarcinus quadratus. So if the 10 gallons tank isn't big enough what would ya'll recommend? I have to shoot at minimums because of costs and what my parents will allow in the house. I would hope a 20 gallon is good enough. Another question about companionship in these crabs. Some tel...

Halloween crab eats spaghnum moss
So I brought my halloween crab to the surface after week to eat and hydrate. I had some shrimp set out for him but he wasn't interested, however he made a beeline towards the area of the 10 gal tank where I had New Zealand spaghnum moss for him to play in, and he started having himself a meal. I hea...

Re: Halloween Crab care and trust issues
Another quick thing, I know about not housing them with hermits but I have read that they live better with other halloween crabs to keep them company. He is male and I know males have a chance of being aggressive towards each other so I don't want to put him through that, I don't know about females ...

Re: Halloween Crab care and trust issues
My main worry is him starving down there with no food. I'm fine with him hiding for a while as long as he gets his nutrients. I saw on one of the forum posts a video of two halloween crabs chowing down on shrimp tails. They were eating more than I've ever seen my crab eat in one sitting! I know he's...

Halloween Crab care and trust issues
So I adopted a male Halloween Crab from a shop at a flea market and I am completely new to the world of caring for crabs. I know it was probably not intelligent of me to adopt this type of crab with no experience. You are probably going to realize how inexperienced I was and am. Ever since I purchas...
