Crabs playing
Hello! I’ve been exploring different ways to enrich my crabs’ life, and since switching stuff up they seem to be more active in their enclosure. I have two medium size crabs and one jumbo. Because of the jumbo crab’s enormous size, I have a disc hamster wheel instead of an upright one. The crabs lik...

Discovered fungus, crab went down
Hi guys, I posted in crabitat conditions the other night that I noticed a yellow fungus growing in the substrate at the bottom of the tank. I’ve gotten the supplies to change the substrate (eco earth, play sand) and I’ve begun the process of removing tank decor and crabs, only to discover that one o...

Re: Yellow fungus?
Is it just on the surface? To me it looks like the crabs dragged bits and pieces of food that molded - in which case you don't need to replace all the sub, just scoop out the funky bits and carry on! It’s underneath the surface, that yellow stuff on the glass. It’s hard to get a good picture of it ...

Yellow fungus?
Hi guys, I’m pretty sure I already know what the answer to this is, but I’m curious to know what’s going on. I have a yellow fungus growing in my substrate. I’ll toss it and replace the substrate but what could have caused this? My humidity hasn’t been too wet because the dry winter air. Maybe the c...

Mermaids purse
I found a mermaids purse on the beach while on a walk, all dried up after being left behind by the tide. I was wondering if it’s ok to feed to hermit crabs, or if they’d eat it at all. I know it’s an egg sac for either a skate or shark, not sure which but also… does it matter at all? Thanks! Sent fr...

35 gal customization project
Hello! It’s my first time customizing an enclosure, so I thought I’d share what I made for my 35 gallon. If anyone has worked on a similar project before, I’d love to hear some feedback. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220713/c6bc6e2cfc3cc3871c3ebb74b6022506.jpg This is an insert for my crabitat;...

Re: hanging bridge?
Bamboo has worked great in my crabitat for ladders I go and cut it down myself because it is invasive in my area. It dries out quickly and it’s easy to cut and split using simple tools.

Coconut fiber mats- suggestions?
I recently purchased a coconut fiber liner for my current crabitat building project. It is advertised as being 100% all natural coconut fiber for reptiles. Upon opening I thought that it felt a little tacky and it didn’t smell as earthy as I thought. I boiled it and it still felt tacky. Here’s where...

Crab dug up empty shell
*this is not an emergency post* One of my large-sized crabs went down for a molt about a month ago. This is pretty standard so I haven’t been concerned. My other crab started digging a few days ago and this morning dug up and brought the empty shell of the other crab to the surface. I don’t see any ...

Flickers turtle treats bag- yay or nay?
My hermies usually enjoy dried river shrimp and mealworms, but they’re usually purchased separately. I got this bag because it looked like a great deal, but it seems like they aren’t eating it at all. It’s been a month now and they still aren’t eating it! Is there anything in there they might be avo...

Depressed or pre-molt?
I have a single crab in a 10 gal temporarily due to the fact that he’s supposed to molt soon and I don’t want to introduce him to the other crab until he’s done. He’s a newer crab and was in isolation for a few months to make sure he was thriving, but he’s been showing signs that he’s about to molt ...

Crab was/is molting, but I can hear it moving
My crab has been under for over a month now, and we’re expecting it to come up any day. We haven’t heard anything at all until this morning, when I heard it digging around and scraping against the glass of the tank for about an hour, but it went silent after a while. It’s the end of the day and the ...

Re: Hygrometer/thermometers keep breaking
What brand do you have? Where is it in your tank? Near the substrate hanging up? Do you mist? Can the crabs climb on it? Is there any corrosion on the battery terminals or batteries? Sorry for the million questions. They may help us figure out why you are having this problem. AcuRite Digital Weathe...

Hygrometer/thermometers keep breaking
Hello! I followed the advice of this sub and purchased a digital thermometer and humidity gauge from Walmart. It worked great for a few months, then the display started to disappear until the numbers were no longer readable. So I went to Home Depot and got a similar one from there, but after a few m...
